as a guideline, around how much should a contrib/staff review for the position? interested but life/business and stuff

A contributor reviewer must review once/month but concentrate on new releases

Staff reviewers must review more frequently (my guess is 3/month) and also concentrate on new albums, while they've also have to be active on lists for best albums of the year (which I really don't know what it means)

1 review/month is really the target for both groups. Anything more than that is celebrated and encouraged, though!

Activity on the year end best albums list essentially just means writing blurbs for those albums. Usually around 1 paragraph to two mini paragraphs in length.

I remember being attributed with Contributing Reviewer title many years ago.

You may notice that some folks have already gotten bumped up, but we are not done evaluating applications (they're ongoing "expressions of interest" without an expiration), so please keep writing if you are looking to make contributor (or staff!) and we will continue to promote based on need on a continuing basis. We could promote more people tomorrow, quite literally, or it may take longer depending on the quality & output of those who've expressed interest.
