The news was released through a statement on the band's official Facebook page, informing that the musician passed away after a "long illness" in his hometown of Brighton & Hove, in the United Kingdom. According to the statement, he was surrounded by his wife, stepdaughter and his dogs at the time of his death, with the sound of MC5 playing in the background.
David Thomas formed Pere Ubu in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1975. Although the band achieved little commercial success, its influence was enormous in underground music in the following decades, influencing styles such as art-pop, post-punk and new wave on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.

Will always love their first 5 albums. Alas, after Song Of The Bailing Man they got poppier, much less experimental and just weren't interesting for me anymore. But I'll never stop listening to the first 5.
