The site owner both simultaneously loves this website, but also will not do anything to fix it or allow anyone else to fix it. A true enigma.

i think this is a cool initiative and the site always benefits from having new blood in the ranks. i can think of several users who would be great additions and I hope they apply.

I think part of the point, as Sowing said, is to make the website look "attractive from the outside in", which could actually motivate the owner to do something about the state of it. If the users aren't actually trying to keep the place together, he has less reason to care. At least that's the way I think about it.

yeah ngl, this is kinda tragic / hilarious (delete as appropriate). I'm not about to slate the mods though, as there's only so much they can do in the current situation. The fact people (like rellik above offering programming support) are willing to contribute in numerous ways, for next to nothing in return, is definitely appreciated. There is still a strong core community here, despite all the issues with the site

i agree with this view. i think in all likelyhood mx sees sput as a relic of a bygone era of the internet (which isn't necessarily incorrect) but still keeps the lights on for the dwindling 100ish users who still come back here every day. a spike in traffic here might perk his ears a bit.

i am a bit weary of the site's ability to retain any new audience without the ability to create new accounts though, especially when they'll be able to see pages and pages of comments and ratings from existing users.

If mx wanted to fix the account issues he could very easily, it's not hard to code user account creation and likewise it's not hard to make it so that account can have an avatar. I truly just think he doesn't care, and will continue to think that until actual changes are made

I don't want to keep talking about myself but I wish I found this site sooner, not sure how I hadn't. I used to search for music websites back in the day and so many just shut down that I was apart of.

I feel like this topic was made in good faith so I don't want to just shit post in here much more. But those forums did seem more aggressive. I've been on the internet for a long time and I played Diablo 1 online so I know how the internet can be. The remnants of them weren't that bad, but I think I posted in one of those were where you posts and I honestly don't remember anything else about the forums other than they existed.

diablo 1 so fuckkkkkn good. d2 was the first game i ever played online

Diablo 1 was vicious, I played by the rules. I did use a trainer a couple times, but it was just to see how well it worked. And wasn't always sure if certain ppl could try their "town kill" hacks. I'd usually just say hey, bounce this user isn't legit. Anyhow Diablo 2 was better from a gameplay standpoint but after act 1 it just lost the gothic vibe and horror Diablo 1 had.

There was something still so special about Diablo 1, as simple as it was just going deeper and deeper. As opposed to Diablo 2 where it was oh I love this vibe and now there's a desert these enemies are annoying, oh there is a jungle these enemies are more annoying. It's hard to explain in a topic meant to recruit ppl for this website that no one new can sign up for to promote on social media. :/ I love the idea. Just it's not me you are looking for anymore for actual help.

there were some neat set areas beyond a1, like durance of hate or river of flame, but yeah a1 certainly has the best flavor. a big reason why i love the french countryside as much as i do is because when im there i feel like im in act 1 and the tristram music starts playing in my head. all the creepy old cathedrals and small lonely stone chapels and scattered oak woods and meadows and a bunch of old half ruined towers that look like the countess'
tower in the black marsh. d2 was religious for me as a kid. i just want to live there

Diablo 3 looked pretty cool. I still played that for the lore, actually but I never got into another run of the game again because I felt like my glass cannon needed some help and just it never happened. I was a Demon Hunter and the Monk was the other guy I played. Plus this was during the early days where there were spam bots and the loot was really odd and RMaH. I knew some ppl but still sometimes I just like to play games online by myself.

I never tried Diablo 4. I should fire up Grim Dawn again. Diablo 3 did another Tristam and it was very ambient, I thought a lot of the ambiance of Diablo 3 was good just things were different. In Diablo 2 you'd talk in a lobby and hey want to challenge a dungeon. Diablo 3 was just all instanced and chat spam with no lobby.

yeah the classic battlenet system was awesome i have no idea why developers shifted to the shit they did.

i put a couple hours into path of exile 2 (maybe 20 or 30) and i think its the closest to diablo 2 but its hard to put time into arpgs these days
