I wasn't sure about the song at first, but then that gorgeous ending came along and I was sold.

dude's harmonies are honestly astounding
|
| |
Not much going on here, but I still enjoyed it. Comes out the same day as periphery, so gonna be a good day!
|
| |
They're in their accompanying immersive film stage, nice
|
| |
"The EP was also inspired by a 1975 Puritan book of prayers of the same name that was gifted to Hull by his mother."
this is the least interesting context for an album I've ever heard but hopefully it turns out good
|
| |
hoping this will be as good as christmas songs vol 1
|
| |
Damn this song is SUPER AMSP-esque and I am SUPER into it
|
| |
Sounds great, I'm glad they're doing an EP before a full album. I need a break from them rocking so much.
|
| |
Inject into my veins. They’ve been on a roll since ABMTTS.
|
| |
Band has been soiling their legacy with everything since Simple Math hope they call it quits soon
|
| |
yeah this band who started in 2004 really fucked up their legacy in 2011 lol that makes plenty of sense
|
| |
"Band has been soiling their legacy with everything since Simple Math hope they call it quits soon"
I can't take this many awful Manchester Orchestra takes in a single day.
|
| |
Andy Hull is featured on Logics new album out today FYI
|
| |
That is... Very weird lol
|
| |
They need to go back to the bitchin' riffin' style from Cope
|
| |
they really, truly do not lol
|
| |
Thought this was pretty albeit kinda boring. Just a single but hope for more variation throughout
|
| |
This band kind just gets like 70% more boring with each release...
|
| |
my point was merely that if they'd quit after Simple Math they'd have gone down as a timeless indie act with a perfect, if small, discog instead of one of those bands that keeps pressing on while churning out soulless shite like they have been for the last few releases. at least they still rock live
|
| |
I think they've entered into quite possibly their most brilliant phase yet, but that's just me.
The Silence is the farthest thing from soulless
|
| |

Just stop, man.

Whaaaaaat? Definitely entitled to your opinion, but The Million Masks of God is one of the best albums of this decade already and by far their best in my opinion
|
| |
I do think the band's production has been simultaneously too busy and too watered down since Black Mile - bands sometimes sound their best when they don't have too much money to throw toward production. It's been about since 2014 when the band's sound really had some "oomph" to it.
So, I guess that counts as soulless if you discount small, tiny things like everything single thing else that goes into a record.
Edit: That said, the vocal production on Andy's vocals just gets consistently more and more mind-melting. Hits me like nothing else in music.

Capital Karma is good, but not BM heights (yes BM is the standard to which they will be measured by—very unlikely to topple, we can only hope for something equally as great).
That said, it does kind of have an Alien vibe, spliced with the more stripped back approach on ABMTTS. Honestly wish they’d just focus on the next lp rather than an Ep with an interactive movie.
|
| |
Andy's comments along with the first 30 seconds of the track absolutely had me thinking (hoping?) we'd be in for a Blushing-era Copeland sort of atmosphere; while this isn't really that, I definitely still had a good time with it, with the bookends being particularly gorgeous.

I didn’t check out the last one (just haven’t felt the drive), but i disagree hard with this. Black Mile is their best for me. I like Simple Math and Virgin, but they’re not on that level at all. Mean Everything is a few notches below BM. Without BM, they’d be above average, but nothing more. Timeless? Disagreed.
|
| |
Agreed that Black Mile is their claim to timelessness
|
| |
Ok but can we all at least agree that their best song is Every Stone
|

'The EP was also inspired by a 1975 Puritan book of prayers of the same name that was gifted to Hull by his mother.'
for some reason my eyes diverted to this bit first, I simply saw 'inspired' and '1975' close together and nearly threw up. Relieved.
The last album had a handful of great cuts even if it wasn't as consistent as Black Mile, so I'm interested to see where they go next.

@MaxTwoKids - big yes. Easily my favorite of theirs
