According to the Irish Independent, funk/soul/hip hop troupe Republic of Loose have had their Top 40 single 'Break!' banned by radio stations in South Africa, after a popular DJ unearthed an encoded endorsement of unprotected anal sex in the song's lyrics.
The imaginative DJ's discovery came (excuse the pun) to him while reading the words to the club hit, wherein frontman Mik Pyro serenades duet partner Isabelle Reyes-Feeney with the line, "you like it rough, right?" Later on, he poses another question, asking "now tell me what you use," to which the gallery responds, enthusiastically, "nothing!"
The subject of unprotected sex is a particularly sensitive one for many in African society, in light of efforts to stem the AIDS crisis on the continent.
