I pretty much hate their music except for the more artsy tracks on their latest, this is a really cool move, using your status as pretty much iconic artists with new gen fans to spread an extremely urgent and important message, mad props to them for this. Instrumental's great as well.

message is important but yeah this sucks as a song, I could never see me listening to this, ever again

I mean Greta Thunberg is cool and climate change awareness is never misplaced but you'd think that after all the pseudowoke cringe bullshit this band have already handed us that they'd do something a little more creative than give her a monologue over 5 minutes of £2 elevator music if they really wanted to to make a point here themselves (inb4 half the album is in the same thematic avenue). Cut down and used as an interlude, this could have been their Fitter Happier but it feels like a really misgauged note to open an album on.

"Cut down and used as an interlude, this could have been their Fitter Happier"

this

sliced into 3 1 minute something interludes this could have worked, but as a 5 minute opener it just doesn't work.

Johnny idk dude I feel like yr completely forgetting these dudes are insanely popular in the mainstream and this doesn’t have to be artistically fulfilling to reach the masses

This song is totally effective in a certain sense, but that's dangerous because it requires the listener to have a certain frame of mind they're almost certainly not going to have when turning on... this.

They've never been much of a political band previously but hey ho if that's what they want to do the message is important.

That said I've long felt they need to stop messing around with rubbish interludes and overlong albums and just release 35 minutes of banging pop songs. That sort of crap has held all of their full length LP's back

When civilization collapses and we all die of heatstroke and/or starvation I'll be able to go out happy knowing I had the correct opinion about a song by The 1975.

i think the track is great but the mood it puts me in is not 'listening to a The 1975 album'

I think the fact that they got someone who actually involves themselves in fighting climate change to write the words and just put some barebones piano plonking underneath it says a lot about how much these guys actually give a shit. Not that it makes it any less of a good message and y'know, better this than whatever shallow tripe Maroon 5 is peddling, but this still comes off as pretty calculated and posed.

The carbon footprint of a successful touring musician is markedly larger than that of the average person, fascinated to see how they'll address that little fun fact.

I enjoy that they thought it was important enough to spread vital climate catastrophe awareness but still had the intensity of ego to call it *The 1975* just in case anyone forgot who this was

Maybe the message isn't quite as important to these guys as exposure hmm

@Slex I mean sure, and I'm glad millions of people are going to hear these words, but at the same time you can bet your arse that this track would never have been released if the band weren't already damn sure that the band + label weren't clued onto the positive reaction those people would have to their platforming this message. Climate change should be cool and hip and championed publicly by trendy bands, but this is such a halfarsed effort on the 1975's part that I find it hard not to view it in cynical bandwagoning terms especially after they turned late capitalist post-truth into the postulational meme of the year on Love It If We Made It
