Touche Amore re-record debut

2019-07-11 by Kurai | 35 Comments
LA based Post Hardcore band Touche Amore are releasing a re-recorded version of their debut album To The Beat of a Dead Horse on a limited double LP containing both the original album and the re-recorded version.

Limited to 1500, this release comes with a book detailing the band's history up until the release of 2011's Parting the Sea Between Brightness and Me with a foreword written by Thursday vocalist Geoff Rickly (who also provided guest vocals on the track "History Reshits Itself").

Dead Horse X will be released on August 9th, and the re-recorded version of "Cadence" can be listened to here:

like i guess it's cool that you're packaging it with a book but split them up and let me buy the vinyl on its own or something
that's fucking silly

Agreed man. I got the Stage Four book with the vinyl at my local record store for $40. That's why I think this is big lame.

oof for $75 it seems like a bit of an elaborate cash grab. I'm not saying the book and vinyl isn't worth $75, I don't know what goes into making all of it and the cost of re-recording that entire album, but I can't imagine the average TA fan wanting to spend that much money on a book and a record.

My god, 10 years already...fuck
I still remember quite vividly seeing them and La Dispute during their tour with Envy. The tour didn't go through Houston, but basically everyone but Envy stopped in for a show on an off day on the way to wherever was next. I introduced myself to Jeremy after the show and asked him about a timeline for the next album, which was Parting the Sea.

yeah, if this was like a $20-25 gatefold i'd be all over it. but $75 for a glorified coffee table book and a re-recording of a 10 year old album is hilarious.

The band are releasing this themselves without a label, so that’d probably be why it’s so pricey. Plus it’s a double LP since it comes with the original version of the album as well.

I pre ordered it as I’m a massive fanboy when it comes to this band (they’re my all time favourite band after Funeral for a Friend).

Limited 1500 release at $75 a pop translates to $112,500.

I'd imagine that barely covers the costs of re-recording from scratch, getting both records into production, and the cost of a custom booklet/LP jacket into production. Let alone design and layout.

Eh, sweet aesthetics notwithstanding, I still feel like $50 is the upper limit I'd shell out for this type of thing.

I ordered it. If you’re not s huge fan then don’t, it’s not like it’s a big deal. I’m glad they put together such a cool collectors item to add to my collection of their hardbound books.

i honestly wouldn’t get this unless i was a hardcore TA collector (which i [un]fortunately am), but the digital version will sound just as good i’m sure. the new version of “And Now It’s Happening in Mine” is fucking incredible, and i think the new mix of “Cadence” is a lot better except for the ending refrain. but having this whole album remixed by Kurt Ballou is not a bad thing at all as far as i'm concerned lol

“Why would they bother re-recording their worst album smh”

In the email the band sent out, they said that the main reason for re recording it was because they couldn’t remaster the original due to the original tiles being lost when the hard drive they were on crashed. Plus they wanted to record these songs with Elliot and Tyler who weren’t in the band when they recorded it originally and make the songs more in line with how they play them live.

I'd like this because the band really goes all out with these types of things but I'll have to settle for the Spotify stream. From what I've seen that's in the package it's gonna be worth the money. There's no doubt going to be a non collectors version too. It's touche we're talking about. They have like ten variants per album and none cost more than 20$

What's the point in complaining about the price of a record when you weren't going to buy it in the first place?

Maybe they didn't have any idea for a new album so they went for a re-recording

Nah, they're releasing a new album this year. Jeremy said it various times during the TTBOADH anniversary shows.

Niiiiiiiiiice! I'm catching them with Deafheaven in October, I hope they will still play TTBOADH in its entirety (it's only 20 minutes so...)

I saw them at Slam Dunk in May, and they said that they would be playing Dead Horse in full on their UK/EU tour with Deafheaven (which I think was prompted by me asking them to play History Reshits Itself as after I said that Jeremy explained that they hadn't played anything from Dead Horse due to them playing it in full when they next come over here).

Also, new Touche Amore album? Consider me pumped, all their albums have been pretty top notch, so I'm hoping that a new album follows in that trend.

I wish they would've re-recorded their first demo EP instead (the one with Hipsterectomy etc on it) because the production on that is pretty bad, but To The Beat Of A Dead Horse is actually quite good so... I don't know. Seems unnecessary but whatever, i'll listen to it.
