Witherfall detail new album 2018-08-31 by dynamic range police | 11 Comments | American prog metallers Witherfall, featuring singer Joseph Michael (Sanctuary) and guitarist Jake Dreyer (Iced Earth), will release their second full-length slice of gloomy neoclassical metal on November 2nd under the title of A Prelude to Sorrow. The artwork is once again painted by Kristian Wåhlin.
The music is inspired by the passing of ex-drummer Adam Sagan, passed away before the release of the band's 2017 debut studio album.
"Like 'Nocturnes and Requiems', the songs have been arranged to still have the peaks and valleys that any great record should. With 'Prelude', these peaks just might be a little steeper and the valleys might be a little deeper, alternating between violence and beauty."
"The titles initials are an acronym for 'Adam Paul Sagan.' He came up with 'Nocturnes And Requiems' so we suppose it is kind of fitting that he also inspired this title. Hope he doesn't come knocking on our door for royalties."
"We hope that this will be a fitting requiem for our friend and talented musician."

Awesome news! It's not going to be easy to top Nocturnes and Requiems, but I have faith.
| | | Nice. Last album was brimming with potential.
| | | Last album slayed, this one will too. Jake Dreyer has got some of the most tasteful shredding I've ever heard. Doesn't overindulge. Al Dente Shredfest

Lmfao I'm using that term from now one
Pumped for new Witherfall stuff, great band!
| | | Today I relistened to the debut and I still think it's great, I believe they can do more for round 2. The passion is surely there judging by the bits I copy-pasted in the article.
| | | Hopefully this one lacks the distracting stop-start songwriting that plagued their very promising debut
| | | Uhm the only moment I can think of is the sudden stop before one of the choruses in Portrait, but other than that I don't see any. I think it's a good attempt at one big suite and I really appreciate the reprise of Sacrifice in the last song.
| | | Sweet I remember spinning the debut a couple of times and it was bringing the goods, like Paradise Lost-era Symphony X meets King Diamond
| | | Single's out!

| | | Nice one but this will probably be one of the shorter and more straightforward tracks of the album. Hopefully, the next singe will be better.
| | | Indeed I was surprised by the length, before the heavier parts I even wondered if they had just used an interlude as a single. That said, I like it.
