Band-Maid change name, sound 2018-04-01 by DatsNotDaMetulz | 12 Comments | Band-Maid have shocked fans this April by announcing a radical change to a core element of the band. Previously known for their maid-based imagery, the all-girl rock group have changed their name to BAND-MAIKO, moving towards a more traditional Japanese look.
To go with the news, BAND-MAIKO have released a new music video for "Secret MAIKO Lips", a reworked version of "Secret My Lips" from Just Bring It in their new style. In keeping with their move towards traditional Japanese imagery, they have also incorporated many Japanese folk instruments, changing their sound from a straightforward J-rock into a folk rock more akin to Wagakki Band.

FWIW Band-Maid released a full mini-album as Band-Maiko, with folky reworkings of a bunch of tracks. I feel like the YOLO rework is possibly the weakest but that might just be cos I enjoyed the original so much.

I forgot this ever happened. This drastic change makes me think they're basically a label gimmick, and this was a label decision for the band.
"Thrill" will always be a jam. Such a good song.
