State of the Art Incubus

2017-03-31 by Sowing STAFF | 22 Comments
In advance of Incubus' upcoming eighth album (set for release on April 21 via Island Records), the band is streaming a third track titled "State of the Art." It is a decidedly pop-influenced affair, with a massive chorus and memorable hooks. The song follows "Nimble Bastard" and "Glitterbomb" as pieces unveiled prior to 8's official release.

The song is currently only available to stream on Spotify. You can check it out over at Consequence of Sound:

The first Incubus track I've enjoyed since Light Grenades.

I mean at this point any memorable Incubus song is a good one to me. This hits the spot.

there are few things sadder than middle-aged men churning out generic pop dogshit.

Doesn't sound like Incubus at all, could pretty much be any generic mainstream rock band. Song is hot garbage. Ok, to be fair there are a couple moments here and there where something will be almost cool. But then it's lost within seconds.

Even some of Thrice's cringeworthy tunes off their latest album are better than this.

Even Light Grenades is a 5/5 classic album compared to this.

"ugh those claps"
Yeah they don't make any sense. There's different elements here that feel just thrown in that don't really fit together imo.

I am rooting for them to get out of their slump and release something good again though.

This album has the potential of being more boring than If Not Now, When

This is better than drive imo. It's funny I can tell when the public won't like an incubus song. Make yourself album - current incubus albums have all been a healthy mix. Why so surprised when they release one rad original incubus sounding single. Followed by a song that could have been on any of their albums after science. Followed by two simple yet beautiful songs. If it wasn't incubus making this music, and say a new band instead, it would be chart topping. This is the listeners problem. Not there's. Science is my favorite album of all time and am soooo glad they don't try to be 18 year old stoners again. THAT would go against what they stand for. Which I guess is their choice. They choose not to make music that their "fans" want to hear. They make music b cause they love music.

I'm open minded to whatever they do. doesn't mean I'll like everything but they can do what they want. I've just found very little i actually like since light grenades

nimble bastard kicks ass tho

Jeet jeet. ive heard drive 30000 times. State of the art is fresh. I gave it a chance. I would say it took me a long time to except drive. It's no less/more generic and corny than state of the art. Except 18 years later it doesn't shock me. It just confuses me that their very large loyal following is so angry all the time. It's too bad they have been around for so long. Morning view to now they have been slighted by their own fans. Your opinion is yours only. I'm just not sure why it's so astonishing they would have slow songs. I hope you listen to throw out the map and thank them for sounding like make yourself.
