Iron Maiden streams Wacken set

2016-07-29 by TheMoonchild | 15 Comments
After six months on the The Book of Souls tour, Iron Maiden will stream the last gig of the 2016 leg of the tour, live from Wacken Open Air, online on Thursday 6th April. The tour, based heavily around the aforementioned album, boasts a giant, Mayan temple themed stage set with the typical pyro and costume changes, and even the classic Eddies that have been a staple of Maiden sets, complete with a setlist with 6 tracks from the new album, some usual staples and even a few surprises too.
Says the band's manager:

"We decided to finish the tour at Wacken as it is the ideal way to end this magical tour playing to 80,000 core metal fans at this legendary Metal festival. Wacken has become such as international event with many thousands of fans from many other countries around the world joining and celebrating with the German fans so it is perfect for the final show of a memorable tour. Everywhere we’ve played the fans have been amazing and the reaction to the new songs and stage show has been phenomenal. The band has loved every minute on stage.

So when Wacken and ARTE asked us to consider a live stream of our performance there we jumped at the chance to give our fans an end of tour gift. Streaming this final show live globally allows us to thank the many fans we played to so far, and, for those who couldn’t get to see us this time round, a chance to see just how spectacular the live concert is and what they missed!"

The stream starts at 9:30 PM CEST (check your timezones) and can be found at http://concert.arte.tv/de/wacken.

Is it just me or is that version of Speed of Light better than the original?

My thoughts on all of the songs from the new album being performed live. I've caught 9 gigs on this tour and every single performance, the new songs have been the highights. The Red and the Black and TBOS, as well as Tears in particular.

The only other "legacy band" I can say that for is Rush. It's telling when a crowd treats the new stuff like the classics they want to hear, it's amazing.

That's what I mean, baby, Book of Souls and Clockwork Angels are damn fine records. Most band's 40 years deep ain't popping out stellar riffs

And when they can make it the highlight of the concert is when it's especially awesome. The Red and The Black sent shivers down my spine at every concert, from the audience participation to the extended instrumental section. It's just magical.

Both CWA tour gigs I've seen were just magical. The second one had Seven Cities of Gold in place of Wish Them Well and I headbanged so hard during it I had a pain in my head that lasted two months!

I saw them a couple years back and they absolutely killed. Still pissed they didn't play 'Hallowed Be Thy Name', though they DID play 'Phantom of the Opera', which is extremely rare. Can't imagine this being bad. One of the few classic metal bands still capable of performing with some real energy.

also, I thought almost all bands stream their performances on Wacken each year, at least for the past couple of years I've been watching them.

Not headliners though, unless they're contacted by the company before their performance at Wacken.

I tried for ages last year to find a stream of the TSO/Savatage set.

So glad I caught them for the first show of the tour. The Red and the Black was a clear highlight for me, and seeing them perform much of the new album live made me enjoy it so much more. I think that's a testament to a truly quality band.
