New Shadows (ex-FACT) Song 2016-07-25 by decisions | 15 Comments | One half of the beloved and late post-hardcore band FACT - guitarists Takahiro Onose, Kazuki Sakurai, and vocalist Hironobu Onose - have released a new single today, titled "Fail", that serves as an appetizer for the band's upcoming EP, "Progress".
The song and video can be found below:
"Progress" will be the trio's new project, SHADOWS', second EP (and release) on the label Maximum10, who previously housed FACT.
While the three aforementioned musicians are the only official members of SHADOWS, the band's elusive rhythm section was at one point manned by the bassist and drummer of fellow Japanese skatepunk band Waterweed, although it is unclear who exactly is filling those positions in this video.
The other half of FACT formed Joy Opposites, described by members as "alternative rock", which has announced an upcoming album titled "Swim" due out this August.
"Progress" will release August 17th.

It's a shame it's so short imho
| | | I mean nearly every FACT song is less than 4 minutes so it makes sense. Plus songs of this style NEED to be short.
Anyway, the song is ok. Sounds exactly like FACT. I do admit that their debut is a near classic but since then they've gotten worse and worse.
| | | What happened to FACT?
| | | wait, LATE? WHAT?!
| | | yawwwwn
| | | FACT broke up into two bands due to creative differences.
While the popular opinion is that FACT S/T is their best, they're my favorite band of all-time from a purely musical standpoint and I think Witness and Burundanga are both better than it. Burundanga is really just an absolute masterpiece IMO.
But this band is sounding pretty good so I'm definitely excited to see where they go.
| | | Didn't know FACT split in two, that's lame. Shadows sounds like a continuation of the sound though so might give it a shot. Dunno what Joy Opposites sounds like.
| | | Pretty cool. Never even heard of FACT, guess I'll go check them out now
| | | You don't see a lot of bands who incorporate both lots of melody and speed into their music, so I'm really digging this even though it sounds very similar to FACT.
| | | They should have just kept the name FACT considering the similarities. This was good, and so much better than Joy Opposites song. Ugh, couldn't get through it. I don't like that type of sound.
| | | The other vocalist was ruining FACT's newer albums for me, glad they split up in two bands
| | | Shadows seems to be the hard side of FACT where Joy Opposites seems to be exactly that; the opposite.
| | | The clean vocals ruin this song.
| | | Nah the clean vocals make this song.
It's not for everyone but this unique brand of post-hardcore/skatepunk brings a fusion of melody and intensity that a lot of bands simply don't do, especially in the west. Getting Vagrant to release the S/T gave them some exposure in an area where that type of punk is even more rare than it is in Japan and I think that's what really drew people to FACT in the first place.
Anyway I've probably listened to this like 50 times at this point. It's so good. The JO song is just OK.
| | | ^It really is one of those songs that you can play over and over. It made me go back and listen to Burundanga.
