Kurt Cobain: Singer, Poet, Cobbler

2007-05-18 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 29 Comments
Self-punk'd rockstar Kurt Cobain will have to endure one final torture. The Nirvana singer will join three other deceased punks- Sex Pistol Sid Vicious, The Clash singer Joe Strummer and head Ramone Joey- as the face of Dr. Martens boots in the UK.

"We wanted to communicate that Dr. Martens boots are 'made to last,'" explains writer Andrew Petch, "and we discovered that these idolized musicians wore them. Showing them still wearing their Docs in heaven dramatized the boots' durability perfectly. And, as images, they feel very iconic."

Ironic, Andrew. Ironic. Get it right.

if you listen closely you can hear three rock legends turning over in their graves.

It's actually four rock legends...and this is rather tasteless...

Is it wrong that I find Avril extremely hot?
This pisses me off. They're dead, it'd be nice if they were left alone.

Nice Avatar, SOP

...this is exactly what Kurt didn't want happening...to become a product of some corporate scheme to make more money.

The only thing I object to is the inclusion of Sid Vicious as a legend.

And Mr Kite, nothing that hot could ever be wrong.

How was Kurt Cobain a "punk"? He was an indie guy if anything.

He was grunge, which is closely similar to punk

Kurt himself, before the genre grunge was created, considered themselves a punk band. But, Motorhead also say they're rock and roll. I'd agree with ValiumMan, just because grunge is similair to punk it's more of an alternative/indie thing.

I wear Doc Marten's all the time, but sicne they took the factories overseas I won't be buying any more of them.

The Doctor Marten's book is filled with stuff about punk bands, indie bands, skinheads and travellers. I'm sure all these musicians (and sid) are in the book.
