Bill O'Reilly Leans On Akon 2007-05-15 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 12 Comments | Last month we reported that Senegalese r&b singer Akon had been taken to task by Trinidadian media after releasing a film of himself grinding on a fifteen year-old girl at a concert on the island.
The past week or so has seen a few interesting developments in Akon's world: phone company Verizon withdrew sponsorship of his tour with Gwen Stefani and removed his ringtones from their store; rumours materialised that the singer is 35 years-old, not 25 as he's led us to believe; the 15 year-old in question turned out to be a whore; and he became the latest target of conservative pundit Bill O'Reilly, who featured a segment on the singer last week.
O'Reilly stumbled over Akon's name, guessing "Akorn" and "Ikorn," before guest Michelle Malkin, a popular conservative blogger and newspaper contributor who's claimed responsibility for Verizon's action, laughed and corrected him. Not to be outdone, however, Malkin proclaimed Akon to be a "rapper" ("violence and misogyny in rhythm & blues music" just doesn't have the same ring) and discussed his "explicit songs and lyrics."
