Kayo Dot Announces 7th LP

2014-07-10 by CursedBell | 30 Comments
Exalted avant-rock band Kayo Dot have begun work on their seventh LP Coffins On Io.

Frontman Toby Driver has described the album as more accessible than past works, juxtaposing 80s themes with the dark menacing atmosphere KD are known for. Furthermore, Driver has
likened the music to the film Blade Runner.

Coffins On Io is set to be released October 16 on Flenser Records.

Tracklist:

1. The Mortality of Doves
2. Offramp Cycle, Pattern 22
3. Longtime Disturbance on the Miracle Mile
4. Library Subterranean
5. The Assassination of Adam
6. Spirit Photography

I thought Gamma Knife sucked and Hubardo was amazing. Only albums I've heard from this band.

Will check this out.

Driver says there’s also an element of sexuality in Coffins on Io.“Basically the vibe that we’re going for here is inspired by 80s retro-future noir— Blade Runner,” Driver explains.

HOLY FUCK!

@dudewhomentionedDowsing I think it's awesome! Kinda a refined version of the Choirs sound but still a slightly new direction...I wrote a huge review on it if you care to read :]

Anyhow, this will rule.

I liked yr review. @Cimnele- I actually think Dowsing is better than Choirs considering the last three tracks of Choirs follow very similar formulas, with only slight characteristic differences. While on Dowsing each track feels drastically different from the last, giving a much broader sense of variety. But my opinion might be fucked, because I think Part the Second is Driver's best album.

wasnt a fan of hubardo, only really liked choirs of the eye and maudlin's part the second. hubardo just didnt have any "beautiful" parts like those two

those are two of my favorite albums of all time though

“There’s a weird underlying theme of murder, shame and death.”

that sounds great.

only six songs though... let's hope they are long

Hubardo had plenty of "beautiful" parts. The Second Operation and the later half of the closer come to mind.

Holy crap I've never listened to this band before, but this cover looks amazing and anything that has the Blade Runner vibe is immediately fucking cool. Hope he means the book's vibe, better than the movie
