Shortlist Music Prize Nominees 2007-03-10 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 8 Comments | The nominees for the sixth annual Shortlist Music Prize, honouring albums which have sold less than 500,000 copies in the US, have been announced.
Frontrunners include The Strokes, whose third effort First Impressions of Earth so far has avoided Gold certification, Girl Talk's Night Ripper, Regina Spektor's Begin To Hope, The Knife's Silent Shout and Spank Rock's Yoyoyoyoyo.
The list of nominees for the prize is drawn up each year by a specially-chosen group of artists and critics. This year's listmakers include Franz Ferdinand (the band), Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody, past winner Sufjan Stevens, Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne, Panic! At The Disco and The Killers' drummer Ronnie Vannucci, Jr.
Past winners of the prize include Sufjan Stevens, who was awarded the 2005 honour for Illinois, Damien Rice in 2003 for O and TV On The Radio for 2004's Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes.
