They need to make more stuff in the vein of Decemberunderground.
|
| |
I mean, remember when Davey looked like a Hot Topic tranny? Now he looks like he sleeps on the street outside coffee shops.
|
| |
I really liked this song, it sounds like one of the more aggresive songs from the last two albums, but Davey sounds really good and the production is great, really piqued my interest for the new album.
|
| |
That was pretty fucking cool
|
| |
I'm impressed
|
| |
Not what I expected, but not bad.
|
| |
It'd really radio friendly, not too impressed but not turned off either; how the album flows could
make me like this more.
Was weirded out because you almost worded the article exactly like I did, glad to see that someone got
the news through regardless.
|
| |
Different, but its definitely my favorite band playing it. Its darker and more atmospheric than anything they've done since Sing The Sorrow which is great. Can't wait for the album
|
| |
I like it, but man I miss his screams.
|
| |
What the fuck? This is actually good! Color me surprised
|
| |
"What the fuck? This is actually good! Color me surprised"
This comment has me excited to hear it.
|
| |
It's okay. Would've liked it a lot more 8 years ago. AFI used to be my favourite. ^^
|
| |
Ya'll are crazy
Boring and repetitive, nothing interesting musically
|
| |
I was honestly expecting more from how they hyped it up but it's growing on me slowly I guess. I hope the rest of the album has more to offer.
|
| |
most excellent.
|
| |
I stopped listening to them after Sing the Sorrow. I love that album and wished they developed that
sound more. They didn't :-(
Now this song actually pretty decent. Nothing like their old stuff, but I still dig the vibe of the
song. I'm hoping they win me back.
EDIT: Link is broken.
|
| |
It works if you copy/paste it
|
| |
Broken due to the "https" - didn't work for me either until copy/paste
|
| |
it sounds like one of the more aggresive songs from the last two albums
What is aggressive about this song, outside the title? :-(
Radio rock is radio rock
|
| |
Sing the Sorrow is over 10 years old, where did the time go?
|
| |
"What is aggressive about this song, outside the title? :-(
Radio rock is radio rock"
It's not hardcore/punk kind of agressive but it's definitely harsher than most of their material since Sing The Sorrow. It's a lot catchier than Crash Love IMO too
|
| |
Not a bad song. If the new album continues with the sound of Crash Love I won't mind because I really enjoyed that album tbh
|
| |
"It's a lot catchier than Crash Love IMO too"
Disagree there, this is too simple to be be compared to most of that album (as much of a poppier change as it was); it's only a track, and like the new Avenged single will be better off when listened to with the rest of the album.
|
| |
damn, i actually like this. can't wait for the album.
|
| |
Here's a youtube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQqnAqtFnIM
about a minute in, sounds good so far.
|
| |
Really? What does everyone see in this?
-It's soft
-Holy repetition
-Terrible lyrics
-Faux-badass "fuck" thrown in for good measure
It's like A7X's "You're Fucking Nightmare" all over again.
|
| |
EmeritusSeason is right
|
| |
Actually liked this, pretty good
|
| |
Shit this is pretty damn good
|
| |
What the hell is there a different song link for everyone else that only I can't see?
This isn't even as good as their Crash Love stuff
|
| |
trent reznor on instrumentals and davey havok sugar coating cupcakes on vox
|
| |
I without a doubt prefer nearly all of Crash Love to this (granted I love Crash Love), but this is still pretty cool. If anything I like the direction of this song more than the actual song, leading me to believe that this album will not disappoint.
|
| |
the start really reminds me of Prince by Deftones for some reason
|
| |
this has been growing on me all day. its kinda like crash love done right. production is great and its dark and atmospheric. kinda bland but i think it will be better in the context of the full album. excited now.
|
| |
"Really? What does everyone see in this?

tis catchy as fuck
|
| |
Wow, that was pretty badass.
|
| |
Some people in here acting like they don't listen to repetitive music.
|
| |
Sorry I'm still positive, cinaedus. I just don't think this is that great.
Some people in here acting like they don't listen to repetitive music.
Swans is repetitive as hell and I love it...but it fits their drone style. If this ends up being part of a 80-120 minute magnum opus then I'll retract my hate for this song.
|
| |
not too into the verses, but the chorus is cool.
|
| |
This just isn't interesting though...like, there's nothing that makes me want to listen to it. I'm not saying Yellowcard is better or anything like that, but at least they're fun.
|
| |
"If this ends up being part of a 80-120 minute magnum opus then I'll retract my hate for this song."
80-120 minutes? Are you serious? Give me 50 minute length
|
| |
I didn't mean that I normally enjoy 2 hour long albums, I was just referencing The Seer because it's one of the few massively repetitive albums that I actually love
|
| |
"I Hope You Suffer"
well, people are gonna start calling this band "emo" again
|
| |
Sing the Sorrow crushes dick though, be proud of that shit mang. They kind of dilch now but I mean the only people that don't like that album are DM purists and people that are lying to themselves.
|
| |
My ears suffered.
|
| |
Wow, this song is pretty nice! Not awesome, but good. I love how Davey softly whispers in the ending.
I'm just worried that it's the kind of stuff that quickly gets boring.
|
| |
~sconza~
|
| |
Only problem I have is the lyrics, what happened to all the big words Davey?
|
| |
Listenable but irrelevant.
|
| |
and pop rock's infatuation with electronica continues
|
| |
^
It isn't really electronica they're utilizing here. Just because there's electronic instrumentation does not make it electronica. It seems closer to industrial in my opinion. This is the dark vibe that I consider synonymous with AFI, which was prominent on every record other than Crash Love. I dig the song and now I'm really pumped for whatever they have in store. Gotta say, though, after I watched the YouTube vid with this song, I rewatched Girls Not Grey. Does everyone agree that Davey Havok is one of the only dudes in music who can successfully pull off long as fuck hair? Dude looked badass.
|
| |
Sounds kinda cool

oh oops uranium got here first
|

5/5
|
| |
Got a hint of NIN in there. Album will rock.
|
| |
shitty
|
| |
I want to like this more than I actually do
|
| |
Surprised by the amount of praise and over the top comparisons/accolades this is getting, beginning to get the idea that this is going to have a lot reviews saying the same thing.
|
| |
nice song.... dark title
|
| |
I think people are praising it mostly because they didn't enjoy Crash Love or DU and they wanted a return to harder rock from AFI, which this is. Personally, I enjoyed Crash Love a lot, so this track wasn't instant love for me, but I though it was good over all and it has me interested in what the rest of the album will offer.
|
| |
(double posted for some reason. Filler because don't know how to delete)
|
| |
I like this more than I should.
Davey Mothafuckin' Havok.
|
| |
Actually, I loved Crash Love a lot.
|
| |
"they wanted a return to harder rock from AFI, which this is."
lol never gonna happen
i see it all i see it all i see it all i see it all

gaykes
cinagaydus
faggot works too
|

=D you can't ban me
|
| |
it was okay.
|
| |
This was pretty cool. I enjoyed Crash Love but something tells me I might like this album more.
|
| |
I'll have to listen to this a few more times, seeing as my negative opinion is in the minority. To me though, it appears that everyone is excited that this is "darker" than Crash Love without any true regard to the technical and creative weaknesses of the song.
|
| |
Does this suck? Yep.
|
| |
I feel like people didn't give Crash Love enough credit. It was a well thought out album conceptually and musically; very enjoyable IMO.
|
| |
I feel like this is plenty creative. Cool melodies and vocal moments... Nifty instrumentation, some tasty NIN influence...
|
| |
"Listenable but irrelevant."
lol shut the fuck up...
|
| |
Sounds like the band re-discovered where their balls were, which were right underneath the Sing the Sorrow masters. Really enjoyed the song itself, & Havok sounds refreshed.
The lyrics? Well... they read like a DU / Crash Love gag reflex. Borrow somebody's thesaurus & dictionary, Havok. Greg Graffin gives them out for free, for fucks sake.
I might actually buy another AFI album again if the reviews don't burn it to the ground.
|
| |
Strange that you would tell Havok to borrow a dictionary or thesaurus considering his vocabulary heavy lyrics in the past. The guy is articulate and well with words, but it doesn't mean he needs to be to get his story or point across. The song conveys more raw emotion and the simple lyrics convey that as necessary.
|
| |
Eh, I'm sorry but lyrics wise they are capable of more. I'm willing to be forgiving when the album comes and a greater
context is revealed, though.
I agree however that the simplicity works for the chorus.
Reading along with the music however, just makes me wish he would use a bigger word or two to match the musics
mood; I'm not saying insert a dissertation inbetween verses or anything, but Havok could've easily reduced a redundancy
or two.
But yea, it's a 2013 miracle this is even good, imo. I can be thankful while being critical, I think.
|
| |
Yes, because the track can't possibly be middle of the road.
|
| |
Double comment, please ignore.
|
| |
It's definitely a step in the right direction, at least; but yea, it's nowhere near horrible, either.
As for being hard to please: lols, argofuckyourself. There are two (probably more) types of fans: listeners, & investors,
the latter which pay for their music to listen to. If you invest time, money, & effort (via listening, going through the
trouble of buying, & then promoting or supporting the band in other social ways), you have every right to bitch about a
band releasing bullshit like "Miss Murder".
If I think a given band's albums suck and were only put out to justify touring (such as AFI's past two "efforts"), I won't buy
them, but someone else will. The world is indifferent, & keeps turning.
|
| |
"the start really reminds me of Prince by Deftones for some reason"
I'm surprised you're the only person to mention Deftones in this thread. The verse is very Deftones-ish (like a cover of "RX Queen" done by Trent Reznor), which is probably why I really enjoyed this.
For the first time in a long time, I'm interested in what AFI will do next.
