Slayer have a (not so) new drummer

2013-05-31 by Voivod STAFF | 44 Comments
In what comes as a rather unexpected turn of events, veteran thrashers Slayer have reinstated Paul Bostaph behind their drum kit.

Bostaph had been drumming for Slayer from 1992 -he came on board for the Divine Intervention album- until 2001 and the album God Hates Us All.

Tom Araya commented on Paul Bostaph's return, as follows:

Paul is an excellent drummer and a good friend and we are very happy to have him on board. We are still recovering from Jeff's loss, however we do not want to displease our European fans (the band is about to commence a European on June 4 from Warsaw) and as a result, we need to move forward. Having Paul behind our drum kit makes everything a lot easier.

alright now i remember reading that lombardo was just out for that one tour because of the pay dispute
and he didn't officially leave the band... i'm guessing that's changed?..

hopefully they get a new album out just so their material doesn't go to waste but they should probably
hang it up soon before kerry does something stupid like hire zakk wylde.

More interested in who's going to replace Jeff as opposed to who's going to replace Dave.

hahaha ffs Jeff isn't even cold yet, and then they do this. Bostaph is a good drummer and all, but I think a lineup change is the last thing Slayer needs right now.

Well if they're really able to jam hard, I won't complain, but I doubt that's going to happen.

Bostaph's pretty damn good so this is probably a good move.

Also, it's likely that they'll be getting someone like Gary or Pat to fill in again for the tour, then
try to get someone full time.

Well, it still sucks that Lombardo isn't back with Slayer. But I believe The best replacement for Lombardo Is Bostaph. He's a beast of a drummer.

Considering we already had 10 years without Dave and nobody was complaining then, why complain about the situation with him now?

It's not about the lack of Dave, it's about the lack of Jeff

They didn't have the money to pay him the first time around, but with Jeff dead that's apparently changed. How about that.

I can just imagine Kerry and Tom getting in a dispute, and then there will be Slayer with Kerry King, and Slayer with Tom Araya.

i don't think araya cares that much, if things between him and kerry soured he'd leave it behind. back before WPB even came out he was questioning how much longer he wanted to do this.

I agree with this in regards to Slayer. However, Lombardo did Philm which makes him a better musician/ drummer. Bostaph has done some shitty run-of-the-mill thrash albums and that's about it.

Bostaph isn't anywhere as good as Lombardo is, let's be serious. Bostaph overplays and has crazy flash but he doesn't have the technique or the versatility of Lombardo, just look at the stuff he's done outside of Slayer that proves this.

Pretty sure they have greater replacement needs, unless Kerry plans on just wanking aimlessly through the rest of the parts.
