Morello Talks President Bush

2007-02-05 by Jom | 27 Comments
As previously reported here at Sputnikmusic, extreme leftist group Rage Against the Machine has reunited and will be headlining Coachella. But it wasn't the headlining gig that got the band back together; as expected, the current President Bush administration has something to do with it.

Guitarist Tom Morello recently spoke with MTV News, saying that the motivating factor that sparked the reunion of Rage Against the Machine was to be a[nother] voice to speak out against Bush's actions in the past six years, hoping to deliver what Morello called "a knockout blow" to the Bush administration.

Mr. Morello, you were funny on Bill Maher. But reuniting with the angry rasta dwarf isn't going to deal a crushing blow to the Republicans as the people who are going to be the most excited by this news aren't old enough to vote.

I'm glad they're getting back together, but that is just silly.

I'm no expert on American politics (I'm English) but isn't Bush out of office in one year anyway no matter what the outcome of the next election? RATM don't need a reason to reform other than that they will be amazing!

But other than all that, Bush is a seemingly a pretty okay dude.

Aside from his messiah complex? When he won in 2000, I thought he was just a benign doofus and nothing to worry about. Now I see him as a spoiled man-child, a way-too-old frat boy who has made the mistake of surrounding himself with the most obsequious toads American politics has ever seen.

You can't expect to get anything done when the company you keep aren't willing to call you on your failures or bust your balls now and again.

If I win, do I get to use my executive power to have stupid people ear-tagged so that the country's leading biologists can study their migration and mating habits?

I personally like Audioslave more than Rage. Chris Cornell owns Zach. Don't get me wrong though, Rage is still pretty good.

Haha thats funny. President Bush doesn't let a terrible approval rating phase him, and I know he doesnt give a damn about de la Rocha and Morello spewing the same old hate-Bush rhetoric.

There's always a group of bands that hate the president....... I personally think Bush is good. Wait, what does debating politics have to do with music? Writing songs about political corruption/retardation is just a waste of time

Considering you listen to Megadeth, System of a Down, Queensryche, and (gag) Trivium, you're kind of in a glass house on that one.

Jom where do you get those numbers? Really
There is a reason for the Iraq war. President Bush should stand up and tell the truth why we are in Iraq. It started in Afganistan, the Iraq, but finishes in Iran. Just open your eyes a you will see how this will end up in Iran.

In his state-of-the-union speech, he put good propositions, finally opening his eyes.

^Its true. If we don't do anything about Iran (economically strangle them), then Israel will go in and demolish them. Israel is not going to sit and watch them get nukes.

I didn't watch the State of the Union address as I didn't want to get pissed off, but it seems that was unavoidable.
Anyway, he supports warrantless wiretapping, the teaching of intelligent design in schools, the No Child Left Behind Act, fabulous tax cuts for the rich, and making people disappear on a whim. And I'm supposed to forgive him because...?

So either way, they're fucked? Great.

Yeah, I say screw all Grassroots movements...screw giving a crap about democracy and shit.....wanna smoke a bowl instead?

Seriously, protests do matter. No matter how much the press demonizes it they do have some effect on public opinion and public opinion can affect Congress.....etc,etc. Will it be a "knock out punch to the Bush administration"? ....unlikely. But come on at least he is expressing his opinion and trying to make a difference.....

Bush is a clown, please america get rid of him.

I wish musicians could make a difference, but they dont.

It seems like Steerpike has some ideas as to how to deal with Iran without ecomonically strangling them. Why don't you enlighten us all?

We all know Tom is a bit over-the-top is the problem. He needs to temper the enthusiasm with a little logic to get anything done.

Re-read what I said. If it still isn't apparent to you at that point that I was being a cynic instead of a smart-ass, then don't fucking talk to me.

^Well then man up and face the facts.

You're right on the money with Tom though. Anger doesn't get you anywhere. You have to argue rationally if you want to make a difference.

I think most musicians dont make a difference, but I think some certainly do, and TOm is one of them. On a semi related note watch the reckoning

I don't like Tom Morello and I'm not fond of George W. Bush.
A fight to the death would be a win-win for this sputniker.

I freakin agree with DeckWannaBFlea! Sure what Rage is doing won't make a huge difference but atleast they'll be expressing how a lot of us feel. So in the mean time relax and light one up!

sigh... the only thing they're going to accomplish is to make the people who were already pissed at the administration, more pissed at the administration, and the people who like the administration, pissed at them.
People don't like to be preached to, for the most part, especially when the message contradicts their views.
In other words, they're only going to polarize the current groups rather than shift them in their favor.
