They are pretty terrible but I'll definitely give this a listen if only for track 1.

This is a band people legitimately enjoy listening to? I was under the impression, from what I know and what I've heard of Dethklok, that this is just a novelty joke band.

That's exactly what they are.

The talk about them and the critique for the II album makes them seem regarded as a legitimate metal act with something to say. After the jokes wear off, there is just a shallow/average attempt at metal music. I guess whatever people find good in them other than their attempt at humour just misses the mark with me.

Dethklok is a joke band, but musically, they're pretty solid. The second album especially has some cool songs.

Love or hate the show, they are an excellent band. The simple fact they have Holgan on the drums pushes them over the average line every fucking day.

Hoglan is great but they are an incredibly (and a little intentionally) derivative and bland band and the fact that people listen to them for reasons outside of the humor is baffling to me. Especially the sheer amount of people I've encountered who say "I don't normally like death metal, but Dethklok are pretty great!"

Idk I think they have some pretty original riffs going on - just because they're simple and the band itself is a novelty joke doesn't mean they're automatically bad. The point, aside from humor, isn't technicality or melody anyway, it's brutality. Like cheesy, axe-decapitating brutality. Which totally hits my metal g-spot.

They are a straight forward Death Metal band with some leanings toward humorous lyrics and content. I don't understand why anyone would want them to rock the boat. I don't want Opeth : The Comedy... I want Dethklok!

That album cover looks sick as phuck. Loved the first album, second didn't have anything that stuck out to me besides Mermaider II but still excited. I'll give this a spin

i don't mind when people who also like other metal also like dethklok. sure, you have shitty taste because they are incredibly bland, but you at least know that there is better metal out there and such. its when i talk to some fuck and i'm like "yeah i like metal" and then he's like "oh thats cool man, i don't really listen to metal, but you know that band deth..klok...dethklok? they're awesome!" thats what really makes me ejaculate fire.

Honestly they're not bland at all. The only reason I've heard people dislike them is the monotone vocals from Nathan Explosion, yet those are the same people who love Corpsegrinder's vocals.
That and they're just like "psh they're a cartoon band". Yeah well so were the Gorillaz.

Dethklok are better than 90% of death metal bands around right now so I don't see what there is to complain about

No other death metal band has as much exposure as Dethklok, so there's obviously going to be a lot of fans who aren't
really experienced with metal. I'm not going to hold that against them though.

thats one thing, but a lot of these people are so close minded and egotistical, that they think in their head "well this is the death metal band that i know and like, so all other ones must be inferior" or whatever. i'm trying to mention other bands that i like and maybe they should check out, but its like "nah brah...dethklok is the shit". and don't get me wrong, i liked a couple tracks on dethalbum ii, but they just got really old fast. gratifying for a couple listens, but no replay value
