Japandroids Shoot for June Release

2012-03-10 by Observer EMERITUS | 24 Comments

Japandroids will release their new album, Celebration Rock, in June.

Celebration Rock is their first LP since 2009's Post-Nothing and will
contain 2010 single 'Younger Us', a cover of the Gun Club's 'For the Love of Ivy', and six
more new songs.

Band member Brian King had the following to say concerning the recording of the new album:
"We had no idea what we were doing when we recorded Post-Nothing. We would just do
four or five takes, and then pick the one that had the least amount of fuck-ups in it. . .
. But this time, we wanted to get really good takes that also had a lot of energy. We're a
pretty difficult band to record because we have some ground rules: no double-tracking
guitars and no overdubs unless they're absolutely necessary. It's basically just one drum
take, one guitar take, and then us singing over top. There's nothing fancy about it.

"Dave and I have just gotten so much better at playing our instruments and playing
together on tour, and I personally feel like I'm hugely more confident in my ability to
write lyrics, and [engineer] Jesse [Gander]'s gotten much better, too. We've all improved
so much. So we thought that if we got back together again and just recorded a new record,
it would inherently be a step forward from what we'd done before."

nice

based on 2012 so far though it'll fall immensely short of their previous efforts and my life will remain in this unrelenting slump of mundane transpirings.

yea i dont mind having younger us on there, i only listened to it maybe 3 times but it was among their best

i am, however, wary of this album. one of my favorite things about post-nothing was the simplicity of the lyrics. theyre talking about more complex lyrics this time, more lines per song, etc. i hope they dont bloat what was already perfect to sing a long to

The band is great, but unless the songs are all ten minutes and longer, 6 new tracks seems pretty disappointing.

If the songs sound anything like young hearts spark fire I'll be happy

you're spot on with the eight songs, it's just a shame one of them we've heard already and another is a cover

Probably still gonna rule.

None of the takes on Post-Nothing sound like they have mistakes, I think they sound solid but they definitely have a live energy on record that I really adore so I hope they keep that production style with this LP.

I don't think 8 songs will be a problem. There are lots of solid albums w/ only 8 songs on them. If they are going with a similar "Younger Us" (in my opinion their best song) feel, this album will be incredible.

I also don't think 2012 is going to be that bad. So far there have been some pretty good releases to me. Cloud Nothings, Julia Holter, and The Men have been stellar. The Shins in two weeks, Beach House and Japandroids this summer, Titus Andronicus and No Age in the fall. Plus some surprises from new bands I'm sure.

"will contain 2010 single 'Younger Us'"

yessssss. so pumped for this. in some ways, I would say they're my favourite band. May-June is looking stacked for new releases.

I saw them live in August and they played 3 new songs, they were all really really good. I think this album is going to destroy. Plus I mean it will have "Younger Us" which is the best song ever ever ever.

"May-June is looking stacked for new releases."

If we're going off what's EXPECTED to be released in 2012, it's gonna be a bomb-diggity year.
