Circle Takes the Square album news

2011-08-16 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 111 Comments
Insidious post-hardcore act Circle Takes the Square will release their second album, Decompositions: Volume I, in November.

The first chapter from the album, 'Rites of Initiation,' will be released as a digital EP on August 23.

Singer/guitarist Drew Speziale said: “We have spent vast amounts of time exploring every fractal peak and recursive valley in the landscape that these songs describe, and we are eager to provide our listeners with the opportunity to glimpse a portion of this realm, and to immerse themselves in the labyrinth of startling curves and staggering depths that we've been lost within for so long.

“Rites of Initiation documents the ill-lit, inward-leading, forever-winding pathways that eventually take hold, on a search for the authentic in an increasingly artificial world. When the boundaries between thinking and knowing, dreaming and waking, living and dying all begin to blur, a terrifyingly primal vision begins to bleed through the fragile veil of consensus perception. To surrender to it, embracing the other side is our 'rite of passage.' We've crafted these songs in an attempt to sing that Transition into being.”

Honestly, how is this announcement 'pretentious'? I mean, yeah, it's a bit wordy and...over-descriptive, but it's not like they're..."this album is gonna be unlike anything you've ever heard before and the best thing ever" and stuff. They're just very...over-descriptively describing their writing process for this album. They're just stating what they're trying to do. And I'll bet you anything the album's gonna do it pretty damn well. So FUCKING excited for this.

True, I like this better than Akerfeldt saying once again how the next album is gonna be the best they ever made, followed by 65 minutes of average progmetal.

It's pretentious because it's obvious whoever said it (Drew?) worded everything like that to try to sound epic. When he/she says "we are eager to provide our listeners with the opportunity to glimpse a portion of this realm, and to immerse themselves in the labyrinth of startling curves and staggering depths that we've been lost within for so long.", he/she literally means, "We're excited for you to hear this."

They're trying to make the announcement of their album sound like the most grandiose statement to ever be released. And granted, it's huge news for a lot of people (ATRU was my favorite album about a year ago so im one of them), but they should just let the album do the talking on its own.
