The Middle East on hiatus

2011-08-03 by Thomas S. | 25 Comments
The Middle East have announced they will be going on an 'indefinite break' during their set at Australia's Splendour in the Grass festival. The hiatus comes unexpectedly after the release of their anticipated debut album I Want That You Are Always Happy, their only full release during their six year existence as a band.

Quote:
... As the band took to the stage in the G.W McLennan tent, they took it upon themselves to announce to thousands of their fans that the performance that followed was to be their last ever gig.

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

I'm just listening to Recordings right now, it's so so so close to being a 5, the highest 4.5 I have for sure.

(still need to hear the new LP, which was apparently disappointing but still, noooooooooooooo)

Heard about this a month or two ago. A great shame, but understandable.

'what?'

@mordecai

The album-recording process was quite problematic, and people i know who know the band reckoned none of them were happy with the LP, and interviews confirmed that.

then about a month ago my mate said his sister, who also knows them, told him they were gonna break up after Splendour.

Other websites have even said that they'd heard whispers that it was going to happen.

Once they have the opportunity to sit around Austrailia for a few months, staring out at the vast expanse of brush, kangaroos, and poisonous spiders, they'll quickly come to their senses and realize why they formed the band in the first place; to get the fuck out of Austrailia! I believe this about as much as I believed Joaquin Pheonix was quitting acting at 35 to pursue his dream of becoming a hip-hop artist. Expect this headline in a year or so: "Middle East, Crushed by All-Consuming Boredom and Sprawl of Home Continent, Regroup For Second LP."

"Though containing eight songs and running to 52 minutes, the band soon shied away from calling it their debut album. After releasing those eight tracks locally, the band amicably parted ways due to Ireland traveling to Europe. In the meantime, word escaped Townsville that The Middle East were worth hearing. Their debut landed on a desk at Spunk Records and – after the track ‘Blood’ was added to a Spunk singles comp, was deemed worthy of a 2009 re-release under the Spunk banner. After Ireland returned home, it seemed like a good decision to get the band back together."

Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
