DragonForce announce live album

2010-07-05 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 65 Comments
British power metallers DragonForce will release their first live album, Twilight Dementia, on September 13.

The album, which will no doubt do well in the search engine stakes on account of its tween-friendly title, was recorded across 19 UK shows with former vocalist ZP Theart. Theart parted company with the band in March citing "irreconcilable differences of musical opinion."

The 13-track record was produced by Karl Groom along with guitarists Herman Li and Sam Totman. Confirmed tracks include 'Fury Of The Storm', 'Operation Ground And Pound', 'My Spirit Will Go On', 'Valley Of The Damned', 'Heroes Of Our Time' & 'Through The Fire And Flames.'

The band are currently auditioning new vocalists on their website.

I saw them a couple years ago, and was surprised at how excellent live they really were. That being said, I have no plans to pick this up. Half the fun of watching perform live is watching roadies pour Jack Daniels down the bassist's throat, or watching both guitarists insult the other when performing solos.

When I saw them with BTBAM way back in the day, they absolutely killed it. Every note was dead on. Including vocals. And the solos seemed even more insane than on the album.

In an interview with Guitar World (I think) Herman said that they were doing so shitty live (at least he admitted it) because of poor on-stage sound. Being a musician myself, most places do have shitty stage sound. The band invested in some in-ear monitors and from what I've heard they've drastically improved since.

Still a snooze-fest band though. Valley Of The Damned is enjoyable.

Maybe you don't remember it right and you're actually talking about BTBAM's performance?

Seriously though, I'm sure DragonForce have pulled off a decent live performance or two in their day. I'm still not convinced this will be any good, though.

I wouldn't be surprised if they re-recorded all of the solos and vocal parts in the studio and left the rhythm section and the crowd cheers live.

Or maybe they'll just re-record all of the tracks in a studio, and just dub in crowd noises.

haha

Since their studio albums are enhanced is every possible way, this will probably get heavily overdubbed. I used to enjoy a few of their songs, now I just don't care about them anymore. No idea the singer left.

Such a thing already happened. It's called Origin of the Feces. Once again, Peter Steele beat everyone to the joke.

I can tell you right now that you will never get an answer to that question. Dragonforce have a reputation for coming on stage already blasted and have never shook the stigma. As such, no one who saw them do a good live show will admit it because then they won't be able to join the chorus of jeering and endlessly repeated jokes.

They were opening acts both them. I wouldn't pay to see dragonforce...but I also wouldn't say they sucked live when they didn't. Well..they might have sucked, but thats' because of their songs, not their performance.
