Coalesce Go On Hiatus... Again

2010-06-19 by Athom EMERITUS | 44 Comments
Metalcore pioneers Coalesce are once again going on hiatus. Coalesce formed in 1995 in Lawrence, Kansas and throughout the latter half of the 1990's released such genre defining albums as 1998's Functioning on Impatience and 1999's critically acclaimed 0:12 Revolution in Just Listening before calling it quits for the first time. They later reformed in 2005 and since then have embarked on a number of successful tours with the likes of Converge, Cave In, and Harvey Milk and released 2009's OX and the follow up EP OXEP, but now the band will once again be put on the shelf while its members take care of their families and careers.

“It’s been a fun couple of years. We’ve had excellent tours with bands we love (Converge, Harvey Milk, Torche, Kylesa, Atlas Moth, Gaza, Touche Amore, Black Breath), been to Europe, East Coast, West Coast, released a new record and a follow up ep, played some great Festivals and had the opportunity to see some old friends, and meet a ton of new people.

This is a good time for a break.

Sean just bought a new house, Junior is starting his new business, Jes is putting the finishing touches on his PhD, and I’m going to sit on my couch and watch Shaun of the Dead.
Thanks for your continued support. Even if Jes put his thumb in your eye, I spit on you, sean puked RIGHT in front of you and Junior gave you a sweaty hug.

You’re the best,
Nathan Ellis”

What more do you want from me? Some sort of apology? Well I promise that forgiveness is the most
you'll get. And what I demand of you is to put up or shut up. So make your decision, but remember -
you can't kill us all.

Loudest live band ever.

They picked a good time of a hiatus, they just have other things going on in their lives, don't hate.

This is a huge bummer.
I'm kinda not surprised though, I caught them towards the end of the tour with Converge, and they were not keeping it together. Like, the set was really really poorly played and they were all ridiculously drunk and just seemed really unhappy to be there.
Hope they get there stuff together and put out another fantastic record though.

Just saw them with Converge, perfect inadvertent timing. Sounds like there are some good things going on in their lives, I don't blame them for doing this.

As long as they keep coming back with quality material I'm ok with this.

I saw them with Harvey Milk and the Atlas Moth. The guitarist's fingers bled all over his fretboard the entire show. Shit was unreal.

Gah, I wish I had gotten to see them. Oh well, they deserve to take care of themselves and their families. Hopefully they'll get bored again in another five years.

I missed a chance to see them live. Converge dropped out of the show I was supposed to go to and I didn't hear about the replacement band (which was Coalesce) now I'm a little pissed with myself, and to top it off the show was in their hometown, that would've kicked ass. :/

Yeah, I am saddened that I missed them at Scion Fest. I was watching High on Fire when they were on. It was worth it though, but now I may not see them again. One can hope it isn't so.
