Metallica to tour Australia

2010-04-28 by DaveyBoy EMERITUS | 70 Comments
After drummer Lars Ulrich let the cat out of the bag a couple of weeks ago while doing an interview in Sth America, it has now been confirmed that Metallica will tour down under in October & November of this year.

Promoter Michael Coppel said Metallica will play in the round for two hours on a custom built stage with full world tour production. Ulrich talked up the production back in October 2008, when the World Magnetic tour kicked off, "[There's] a big-a$$ f*ckin' lighting rig above us, and there's some pretty cool stuff up there. There'll be some $hit that turns on and off and some $hit that blows up... the usual stuff."

The dates - which clearly appear to leave room for multiple additional shows - are as follows, with tickets going on sale Thursday May-13:

Monday 18th October - Entertainment Centre, Brisbane
Friday 22nd October - Burswood Dome, Perth
Wednesday 10th November - ACER Arena, Sydney
Monday 15th November - Entertainment Centre, Adelaide
Thursday 18th November - Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne

These first shows will sell out in about 2.9 seconds, if not in some sort of "special" pre-sale.

Metallica are worthy of being Megadeth's roadies at best. Mustaine might not of succeeded in being "bigger" than Metallica but his band sure as hell ended up being a lot better.

Yeah, I thought they'd do Etihad Stadium in Melbourne for certain. If AC/DC can sell it out 3 times over, then Metallica can at least sell it out once. And I presume they still could have done it 'In The Round' there. Dunno, maybe they make more money at arenas.

Personally I love both, but metallica more. However, there's no doubt that Chris Broderick is the most talented musician of all of them...that guy slays live, and is insanely knowledgable.

Yeah saw Megadeth live in December and was about 10 feet from the stage. Broderick did the solo of Tornado of Souls without looking or missing a note, dude fucking shreds.

$150 i think

my mate tried for the presale but missed out, and couldn't any when they went on sale yesterday.

they have to announce more shows, srsly. pretty sure melbourne's their last stop anyway. they could add heaps.

Yeah, you could see from the original dates above that they have so much room for more shows. Why they didn't just book Stadiums in the 1st place will remain a mystery. They could still play "In The Round".

I'm really starting to be more choosey with the venues I go see gigs in nowadays too. A comparison: Florence & The machine with 1 album at Festival Hall = $87. Biffy Clyro at The Hi Fi Bar with 5 albums = $45.

Now I know Florence is currently running hot & is probably already more popular, but that's a ridiculous discrepancy and imo has a lot to do with the venue. I can almost guess tkt prices nowadays simply from where the concert is at!

I will let you know next week CTS. From what I've been told though, it's much better.

Speaking of local gigs, many of the Splendour In The Grass sideshows that went on sale today are already sold out! I was gonna leave Two Door Cinema Club as a same week decision. That's out the window now!

Hi-Fi in Brisbane isn't overly awful or anything, but for a specifically built live concert venue it was really underwhelming. 1st time I went I read the 'about' spiel on the website beforehand and went in expecting "nine distinct levels of viewing" or something, which was really kind of bizarre considering there was only 2.

Managed to snag a GA ticket for the 19th Tuesday concert. Was a fucking challenge to get a hold of it though.

Last gig I went to was Grinspoon at the Hi Fi Bar in Melbourne and it was hands down one of my favourite gigs and the venue is up their with the Forum as one of my favourites.

I somehow got gold seating for Sunday in Melbourne for Tallica', really wanted standing but considering people full on missed out, I'm not complaining. ($20 postage fee is an absolute joke though)

Hmmm. Not sure they are great choices, since I think the crowd will be rather mainstreamy.

They added a new Sydney & Melbourne gig... Like 4-6 weeks before the tour was meant to start. I think they're just gonna live here for 3 months.

yeah i do belive thats how it works, atleast for some acts but it depends on the main performer, still i doubt this guys would tour for the love of music, i mean lets be real, opening up for metallica, as much as anybody disses them, is still a profitable oportunity to say the least
