Trivium Confirm New Drummer

2010-02-04 by CrackTheSkye | 48 Comments
After much speculation, Trivium has officially announced that Drummer and founding member, Travis Smith is no longer part of the band. His replacement is Nick Augusto (ex Maruta).

In a statement taken from the bands website, “Florida metallers TRIVIUM are pleased to announce Nick Augusto as their new permanent drummer. Augusto was introduced to Trivium fans when he filled in behind the kit on last fall’s “Into the Mouth of Hell We Tour” trek. He is now stepping in to permanently replace the departing Travis Smith.” In the full statement there is no explanation as to why Travis has left, or been kicked out.

Augusto has recently recorded two new tracks with the band, “Shattering the Skies Above” and a cover of Sepultura’s “Slave New World.” A thirty second clip of Augusto tracking drums for “Shattering the Skies Above” can be seen at the bottom of the statement.

He seems to be a much more interesting drummer then Travis. Should be interesting to see what kind of influence he brings to them.

He won't help them. They suck. Only 12-16 years old boys like em.

They should be deported to Africa with the band members of Distubed. Which is the most terrible "popular metal" band ever.

But Disturbed is actually decent at crafting monotonous yet catchy mainstream hard rock songs and Trivium just sucks at everything.

I guess everyone being elite is the way to be nowadays. Im interested in what this guy does, but im still bracing for another let down since Shogun was actually pretty good.

Have to wonder if Smith might be replacing the Rev in Avenged Sevenfold. The guy is a great drummer and the bands have similar styles. A7X was in the middle of producing an album, so it'd make sense to fill that space as soon as possible to keep things moving.

It's kinda sad to see a founding member go, he had potential to be a pretty good drummer someday. I wonder if there was any animosity or creative differences or something. I really don't think Smith would go on the Avenged Sevenfold though. The Rev was a much better drummer and I think A7x is gooing to want his spot empty for awhile.

Lol. Outside of the Crusade, I think Trivium is pretty awesome. Won't appeal to anyone who doesn't like metalcore to begin with though.

^^Ember to Inferno rocks.

Trivium isn't really all that metalcore to begin with. They have far more thrash qualities than metalcore qualities, but since 'metalcore' is the lowest common denominator, people just say they are metalcore. But honestly, Their breakdowns are no more ‘metalcore’ than the breakdowns you’ll find in old metallica, slayer, or testament songs, and Trivium doesn’t really have any hardcore qualities to speak of at all.

Maybe Smith can do something interesting again. For all my loathing of Trivium's derivative songwriting and pretentious lyrics, Smith actually had some decent work on their first album. When they released The Crusade however, he just turned to ripping off Metallica like the rest of the group.

This kinda sucks. He wasn't all that special but his kit had a unique sound to it; i could always tell when Trivium came on shuffle even when I didn't know the particular song because of that.

Smith is probably one of the most overrated drummers i know of. His way around the kit bored me to death. Hes not that bad technically, but not very good when it comes to taste.
