Omar Turns To Frusciante

2006-08-12 by Muisee | 15 Comments
The Mars Volta's principal songwriter Omar Rodriguez-Lopez laid down his guitar for his band's upcoming album to work primarily behind the scenes.

The rocker let Red Hot Chili Pepper John Frusciante to do most of the guitar work on the act's upcoming Amputechture, according to Rolling Stone. Rodriguez-Lopez, who laid down a handful of guitar solos on the album, stepped down to a role of composer and musical director.

Amputechture is set for a Sept. 12 release, and follows up last year's Frances the Mute.

That's nice and everything.

It still sounds like Omar playing to me.

Hmmm weird... so does that mean Omar will be writing the parts and Frusciante will be playing them? Or will Frusciante be writing as well?

Pretty weird for Omar not to be playing on a TMV record haha. As for Frusciante, RHCP AND TMV... dosnt get any better than that.

So that's why Amputechture sounds so much better. Frusciante's playinng on Frances was awesome, and amputechture sounds even better.

John's solos on L'Via are awesome, it will be neat to hear what he does in this album.

I cant wait

i think Omar's problem is that he's going insane in a good way. he's writing riffs and solos that are way beyond his own ability, and he's such a sloppy guitarist anyway that he probably couldn't hit the notes in the studio consistently. best to let a more seasoned pro like frusciante do all the recording, and then Omar can just play whatever he wants live.

That's a good point, so I'll agree with that.

This isn't true. Omar played lead guitar and everything, and let Frusciante do some rhythm guitar work. Omar also arranged and did all that stuff, too. If you found this in the thread on the Comatorium with that Rolling Stone article in it, then I can understand how you might have thought it said what you put.

Cool, I hate Omar's style and tone, but Frusciante knows how to work the geeter. Even if he's the only one from saving RHCP from becoming a completely bland AOR band.

Hold on,i can't really believe what i'm reading here,Omar is an incredibly unique and gifted guitarist, much moreso then John Frusciante(IMO).Just listen to Relationship of Command...Completely unique and brilliant guitar work courtesy of Omar.I've never heard anyone play a guitar like he does.

No offence to John,i do like him,but in my view theres no comparision between the two.Omars from another planet...

Well what oppinions cant be changed but we shall see who likes who after the album. Omar and John are tottally different and the "sloppy" guitar and finger work on the album is very organized and called "scatter" to a certain extent. With his work on ATD-I he really didn't have the right amount of skill or hand technique, with the way he is applying himself and the band to add more talent and such in, they willl just get better and better.
