Hmm mods approved it, but if it's not really significant to anyone than I will stop posting things like this.

Well, I mean, It's technically news, but it's so insignificant. When I think "News" I think tour dates or a band breaking up, something along those lines, not the announcement of a cover song.

Yes if a band puts up a new song it's news - too bad Balls, I think they were in the wrong there not you. Why is that so difficult to understand what news is? I'd rather see posts like this than ladada got robbed, this person died, this band broke up all day.

generally, news like this aren't unneccessary, but in this case, it's kind of unwarranted, as there has already been a confirmation about a Darrell Abbot tribute album, which has 14 songs on it. There's no real point in positing news every time another band releases their cover of a Pantera song, just wait for the whole album to drop/leak whatever.

Should just repost the full tracklist again and leave it at that, at least until it streams.

I like looking at the news and seeing that a bands put out a new song, even if it is a cover. Even if the news is insignificant, news is still news and I see no sign in the top right saying "Significant Music News Only"

I honestly feel, if people are fans of bands, they would want to hear a new song or a cover song. So, why is it pointless to post this?

It's news to me when a lot of bands post new songs because I do a poor job of keeping up with my favorites, even if I know that they have a CD/Vinyl/EP/DVD/whatever coming up. And its not like the front page of news fills up everyday anyway. I say keep 'em coming.

they covered a sweet under-played song tho. that's a plus. sandblasted skin fucking owns.

and nobody posted my news about The Crown reuniting. maybe cos nobody on this site likes or even has heard of The Crown. I'm guessing by looking at how many votes their albums have received

This is kinda hypocritical of me saying otherwise, but I think the only reason a band should cover a song to have fun, and bring that song to a different audience.

My band covered Cher's "Believe", and got a lot of laughs out of the crowd and myself, could barely keep a straight face half the time, but this Unearth is just kinda....trying to be one of their influences if that makes sense. They didn't sound like they were having fun, they just sounded like they wanted to be Pantera.

Prolly gonna get flamed for that comment.

There's more than one reason why bands cover a song

Just saying that this cover didn't feel inspired at all, nor did they even sound excited. It lacked a lot of the energy of the original.

but this is also coming from the guy who sang Cher at a Veil of Maya concert.

Unearth isn't the worst metalcore band out there but what a horrible choice for a cover song.
