Meh. Will almost certainly give Hatchie and The Raconteurs a passive listen at the very least, same with Titus Andronicus although my expectations are low there. Kind of hoping this is one of those weeks where an unexpected album hits me out of nowhere...top candidate right now is that release with the super long title.

I plan on gushing over Hatchie like it's a Sowing 4.7

Slex

It’s all about State Faults this week, I’m obsessively excited

Sowing

People used to say "like a Sowing 5" so I must be developing higher standards!
I plan on listening to Hatchie as well. Looking forward to your hyperbolic review.

You guys should consider Diabolic in this week's news thread. Idk what genres you're into but in underground hip-hop circles he's considered the greatest overall MC active in the game. Released his new album today, after more than 5 years of waiting. "I step on stage looking like a lumberjack from East Vermont, killing the whole underground like tunnel-rats from Vietnam."

TheSupernatural

I just checked out a track off State Faults, it's stunning

I just checked out Diabolic, that first track is a banger

Gotta listen to The Raconteurs. It’s been ten years so how old does that make me?
That make me?

Demon of the Fall
06.24.19
Hatchie sounds like the quint-essential Demon 3/5, very pleasant and just about engaging enough not to fall victim of the dreaded 'average' tag. i wish it sounded a bit more like the Cocteau Twins (as alluded to on a couple of sound-offs) and less like whatever else it sounds like.

DoofDoof
06.24.19
Main problem with the Hatchie is the song writing is shit tier - just fluff, reminds me of the underwritten stuff you'd get late 80s/early 90s from the factory pop song writing teams. I guess she writes her own stuff, which is laudable if she does, but it's pretty dull fare.

The sound isn't that incredible either - her voice is average, the Cocteau Twins ethereal quality is watered down to a mild hint of a flavor, and the whole thing sounds (give or take) pretty much the same throughout.

In some ways it reminds me a bit of the Cigarettes After Sex sort of deal, but that album had charm and at least a couple of song writing ideas which were maybe overplayed but at least it had them.

Demon of the Fall
06.24.19
Her voice is nice enough, could be stronger or at least have a more personality, a uniqueness. Song-writing seems fine to me, in fact it's what's holding it together right now as it's kind of unremarkable, just pleasant. Damn you Doof, you're making me reconsider, might end up on a 2.5/5 instead.

Flugmorph

rec me smth from this bois

DoofDoof
06.24.19
Demon - I did revisit it last night thinking I was being overly harsh but it was still super boring, just one I don’t get.

Demon of the Fall
06.24.19
I'm going to spin it again (heard it twice so far), probably tomorrow now. Let's see.

DoofDoof
06.24.19
Not sure I'll bother with a third spin - I'd prob drop it to a 1.5 knowing me so I'll stop while it's stuck on the 'quite good for a Doof pop rating' 2 out of 5
