Portugal and Germany last met in the 2008 Euros with Germany running out 3-2 winners despite being outplayed for the entire game. Alas, Portugal weren’t able to channel their disappointment into any notable musical feats, but at least they’ve got Ronaldo. Germany’s rock and metal scene, on the other hand, has managed to produce a multitude of world class acts, seemingly to spite their shitty dad rock-loving population.
Portugal: Rui Jorge – ‘Touch Me’
I wasn’t exaggerating about Portugal. Rui Da Silva was the first Portuguese musician (well, with one kinda-exception we’ll find out about in later rounds) ever to have a record chart in the UK when ‘Touch Me’ hit #1 in 2001.
-v-
Germany: Atari Teenage Riot – ‘Black Flags’
This one really is no contest.

klose should have played from the start, it his birthday. (also klose > gomez).
lets see how the german defense will handle ronaldo's magic. besides lahm everyone else can do horrific mistakes.
it rained a lot and the field is wet, lets see how well the germans can use this fritz walter weather.
anyway: good luck and a fair fight.

Podalski's blown a lot of opportunities, too. Gonna have to have to rectify that to go deep in the tourney.
And, once again, CR7 is fairly quiet in a major international outing.

CR7 needs a good middlefield like in real (özil and co.) just like messi does. both of em dont work very well in their national teams.
anyway i'm glad germany won, but if portugal had won i wouldn't have been surprised. portugal was much better than i anticipated.
i have to say germans defense was topnotch. i (as does the whole country) cry over our defense all the time, but this time the defense (hummels especially) were very good. neue saved our asses a lot of times. lahm was not good enough in the offense (maybe because he switched to the left side instead of his fav right).

Portugal were really unlucky not to score at the end of the first half though. That could easily have gone in and they could have made just a little more of some really good chances.

Cagey game overall, but probably a fair result. Holland-Germany on Wednesday could be a classic after their loss to Denmark.

Portugal was slightly better, you created more scoring opportunities, but Germany were more crucial in front of the goal. Don't forget that football is not a fair game, the winning team is the one that scores more goals. Being able to create scoring opporunities is important, but being lethal in front of the goal is even more important. And unfortunately for your team, the Germans had a forward in their starting eleven who had scored almost 40 goals this season.

About the game: Could have gone either way but the luckier team won, Germany will play better the more games they play and therefore will have a very good chance at getting to the final.

So you either live/d in Germany in some backwood area and are generalizing from there or you're just blind. The metal/rock, punk/hardcore and hip hop scenes in Germany are big, and I'm not talking relatively big but big, and I don't think I'd actually have to mention that considering all the festivals going on around the year ect. And personal experience is in NO WAY EVER applicable to a majority of people, that's just plain unrealistic.
"There's absolutely no support from anyone but the small scene of people who are into this music aswell that helps bands in Germany survive... I'm always surprised by any band that makes it to their 2nd album."
lol, that is also bullshit. The Black Metal scene is a brink scene with lots of 'underground' stuff and in numbers less supporters than the more popular metal representatives and the scene has still thrived and bands have survived. Also, being a musician =/= SOLELY being a musician [and if you're in the niche market 'musician' is a shitty profession anyway]
"Anyway why is it that the Germans feel entitled to winning it? Was the same in the world cup in 2010"
*German fans. Also, why is that even a question? Fans want their team to win and they feel that their team is entitled to do so. I don't think I'll have to go into the phenomenon of 'acute nationalism during sports events'.
06.10.12
06.10.12
Yeah well when we're talking about football in the first place it isn't really necessary to add in the "fans", you know what I mean.
But they gave a stat during one of the matches, 60% of Germans (and they did say Germans) expect Germany to win it. And I remember just before the semi against Spain in 2010, some Germans I knew were extremely confident they'd win the world cup and they said that was the general feeling in Germany too.
06.10.12
06.10.12
Also.. what? Germany has ALWAYS been a country of Punk/Rock/Metal dwelling beneath the surface, at times those were even the some of the biggest scenes. When my mother was a teenager rock was one of the dominant scenes.
Live shows expensive? What? Have you been to a concert in Scandinavia or the Benelux? Germany's live concerts are ridiculously low priced in certain scenes. Are certain big shots gonna be expensive? Hell yeah, but concerts in said scenes? Summerbreeze is 3 days of metal partly with bands like Bolt Thrower and Immolation and it costs about 60~90€. Sure, the price has been rising but that also been due to the lineup changes and the more popular the more expensive a concert's gonna be, but that's the case anywhere.
I mean I have no idea whether you live here or if you ever lived here or if you have just been a guest for some time in Germany but everything I know (and some people I know) disproves of what you're saying.
06.10.12
And you seriously believe that this statistic represents EIGHTY FUCKING MILLION PEOPLE? They probably did a poll in some major cities and left it at that. Those are empiric studies, nothing that actually represents anything. I lived here my whole life. Is euphoria about soccer big? Yeah, it's our national sport. But that is most definitely exaggerated. And once again, phenomenon of acute nationalism during sports events is nothing restricted to one country and if you look for it you can most definitely find people thinking their team is entitled to win (again, that's what makes a fan).
