So there I was about to write yet another blog about yet another event that I had attended, when I thought to myself “Davey, you can’t write a full blog about the SoundWave Festival. It would turn out like ‘War & Peace’ and the entire SputnikMusic Blog machine would blow up. Plus, you need to stop talking about YOUR experiences (that’s what lists are for) and give the Sputnik-ites out there what THEY want”.

So last week I ran a poll (you probably missed it) as to what you all want & three main answers stood out: (1) Jonny Craig to give you the MacBook you paid for, (2) Sex & (3) Chan to review the new Aiden album about to be released. Those points seemed irrelevant to my blog, so I took the next three best responses and decided to roll them into this one all-encompassing blog. Ladies & gentlemen, I give you (1) Metal, (2) Huge headlining acts, & (3) A tour around Australia!

Prior to our tour beginning however, a disclaimer must first be aired for legal purposes: SputnikMusic shall take no responsibility for any motion sickness caused by unsteady hand-held cameras used in the making of the following videos. The same goes for deafness caused by varying volume levels, seizures caused by blinking lights, and blindness caused by the brightness of security vests.

Our tour today – just like the SoundWave Festival – starts in the north-eastern city of Brisbane, where it is sunny one day & flooded the next. After guitartist Jeff Hanneman was bitten by a spider (to be replaced on tour by Exodus’ Gary Holt) & prior to lead singer Tom Araya being hospitalized in Sydney (causing his band’s shirts to be burned en masse),  Slayer struck up a storm in Brisbane that hadn’t been seen since, well, those floods last month. Here they are for your enjoyment performing ‘Hate Worldwide’, which are quite coincidentally the only 2 words I can understand…

Our next stop is to the city of the 2000 Olympic Games & Australian Mardi Gras… Sydney. Famous for its Opera House, Harbour Bridge & Oprah Winfrey completely shutting the city down for a week or so last December, I can only think of one rock star big enough to guide us through our tour of Sydney today. That’s right, Myles Kennedy. And thankfully, he’s not alone. He brought some dude named Slash with him. Now this footage of ‘Sweet Child O Mine’ does not have the 3 minute boobie flash I witnessed in Melbourne, but we’ve already decided this blog isn’t about me, its about all of you. Enjoy…

Now to the unquestionable highlight of our trip, the city where SoundWave sold out fastest… The city that has a public holiday for a horse race… The city where you will find all the good looking Aussie women & the strongest men of this land down under (including yours truly of course)… The south-eastern metropolis of Melbourne. The state which Melbourne is the capital of is Victoria, which was named after the Queen of England at the time. And I think that time was the Stone Age, so what better band to represent Melbourne than Queens of the Stone Age, seen here playing ‘The Lost Art of Keeping A Secret’…

Oh, and just to prove that we are indeed the strongest men down under, this is how we ROLL…

All of that hometown lovin’ has got me a little self-indulgent all of a sudden, so as we continue our trip around Australia to the lovely (read: boring) city of Adelaide, I thought it best if we just momentarily forgot all that stuff about metal & huge headlining acts. Sure, I could have included a video from Rob Zombie, Stone Sour, One Day As A Lion or Bullet For My Valentine, but when I think of Adelaide, only one band & song comes to my mind. No, not Mudvayne’s ‘Fall Into Sleep’ you idiots. I’m talking about Anberlin & their song ‘Adelaide’…

The final stop on our whirlwind tour takes us all the way over to the west coast of Oz where the city of Perth sits lonely nowhere near the rest of Australia. Just like the long journey it takes to get to Perth, the day of the SoundWave Festival is a long journey itself. Some will pass out in a toilet before they make it to the end, others will be at the bottom of a mosh pit at Stage 6. But for those TROOPERS who make it to the end, the reward is seeing the festival headliner. And in the case of the 2011 SoundWave Festival, that band was Iron Maiden. So go crazy just one more time for ‘The Trooper’…

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and so completes our tour around Australia today. I hope you all enjoyed it. For those that are not quite ready to head back home just yet, there is one additional tour option that is available to you. It will require you to return to the city of the wheelchair crowd surfers & join yours truly through his day at the SoundWave Festival. If you agree to take this extra trip, you may do so by clicking http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?listid=68072&memberid=268913

Thanks Tom.

And yeah, there are other videos where you can see wheelchair surfer dude get invited up on stage & take a swig of QOTSA's various alcoholic beverages.

Wheelchairs and soundwave go together like biscuits and cheese, man. There was a wheelchair dude in the centre of the All That Remains circle in Sydney, and he was going off. Definitely one of the many highlights of that day.

Haha. I can see it being a wheelchair only event in 5 years time.

I wish I knew how I made that parrot look like it is flying off the page.

Better than War and Peace. And Sydney > Melbourne, sorry Davey.
Had a great day. Loved Maiden, and every other band I saw were great as well. Except Slayer, obviously.

I only come out of the woodwork when it's footy season, Davey. I was just behind those shirt burning folk for Slayer. Very understanding fans they were.

DaveyBoy
03.13.11
Oh, very understanding. I'm sure you were leading the "Bullshit" chant. ;-)

"No one beats QOTSA, I must see them at least once in my lifetime"

Yeah I finally got to catch them here and it was easily worth the wait.

Thanks Ali.

No need to read all my funny stuff Sonic. Just push the play buttons on the videos if you like.

Dunno bloc. Wheelchair crowd-surfers took away some attention from QOTSA.

I must say Erratic, I wish I had seen some of Maiden, but Gaslight Anthem ruled my day instead.

Thanks Aids. I wasn't sure if it was going to be a little too much, but people can always come back to them if that's what they want to do.

Great blog, Davey. That wheelchair crowd-surfer is a legend.

DaveyBoy

Thanks HBFS. I actually saw the wheelchair bound guy earlier int he day at Anberlin. We were trying to get closer to the stage & I saw a gap in the crowd. Of course, it wasn't a gap.

DaveyBoy

Why thank you dear sir.

Glad to hear it was worth the effort of going through many, many, many videos... Especially those left on the cutting room floor which did leave me with nausea & hearing issues.

At American Carnage there was a dude in a wheelchair with an oxygen tank and other stuff. He was doing doughnuts in the Slayer mosh pit.

DaveyBoy

Hahahahaha. Mate, can you find a video of that. Please find one... Please.
