Review Summary: BRAIIIINNNNNSSSS!!!!
Here we are again boys. Another day in 2024 and yet another AMAZING death metal album comes down the pipeline from….South America. We had Fossilization last year and now here comes Uttertomb. Hailing from Chile and ready to melt ***ing faces, Uttertomb’s debut album
Nebulas of Self-Desecration will leave you feeling dirtier than a 10 cent hooker in downtown Pittsburgh at 2 in the morning.
These guys know how to bring the murk and that's what really drew me in from the start. As Incantation and Infester did in the 90s, Uttertomb just has that knack for conjuring up some of the most crushing and worm infested sounding death/doom you will ever hear. As if it is coming straight from a 100 year old coffin buried 6 feet beneath the earth’s surface. The riffage is absolutely devastating here. They blast you in the face with funeral doom-esque passages just as often as blitzing death metal, giving you the feeling that a zombie is gnawing on your brain and leaving you unable to grasp what is truly happening. Hooded Menace seems to be a huge influence too when it comes to the horror inspired imagery and vibes in general. Vocals are barbaric and have an echo to them as if someone is quite literally shouting at you from the blazing depths of hell.
Once again, South America must have something in their water because the amount of fantastic death metal coming from there in recent years is just insane. Uttertomb have already proven that they’re a force to be reckoned with and hopefully
Nebulas of Self-Desecration is just a sign of what's to come. And if that's the case, we should expect a genre classic from Uttertomb in the coming years. Hell, this album isn’t even that far off.
