AC/DC Blamed For Recession 2008-10-27 by Meatplow | 24 Comments | Prestigious British newspaper The Guardian has published an article pointing the finger at veteran Australian rock group AC/DC for the countries looming financial recession, the success of the groups latest album Black Ice running parallels with the dismal economic state of the country each time they have returned to the charts over the past three decades.

The last time AC/DC made No. 1 in Britain, the country was on the brink of recession. Back In Black, the album that marked their commercial breakthrough and went on to become the worldwide second biggest-selling of all time (behind Michael Jackson's Thriller), was released in 1980, just as inflation had reached 20 per cent and unemployment inched towards 2 million.
During the 1980s financial boom, although they continued to enjoy success in Australia and the US, AC/DC's popularity in Britain waned. The album that marked the band's return to glory in Britain was The Razors Edge, released in 1990 - just as the country headed towards its most recent recession.

anyone who takes this seriously is retarded
| | | or maybe it only happens when they make a shitty album. they should probably just call it quits.
in all seriousness, though, that's a bullshit claim, though i guess it's still funny to think about it.

| | | correlation does not imply causation
| | | I didn't even think of it.
I've been working all day gimme a break. I edited it in.
| | | Hahahaha! This is phenomenal.
| | | Excellent reasoning
| | | it's obviously true. anyone who doesn't think so is a shoop
| | | Uh I don't think this article is meant to be taken seriously so I don't know why everyone is yelling about it
| | | uh, i think like only two people in this thread may have taken it seriously.
| | | Metaplox, didn't I tell you about this?
| | | shhhh i want people to think i'm a story scout and didn't just steal it out of the aussie community thread
| | | Okay. Shh everyone.
| | | I blame them too
| | | I guess money hates one of most overated bands ever...
| | | hey, i take this very seriously. If they release another album anytime soon, it will be the end of civilization as we know it.
I've been telling people for years that rock and roll songs about rock and roll had no point and could only cause harm to society, but no one listened till it was too late.

| | | Hehe. Poor old AC/DC. Chances are, the majority of the people blaming them are the same people who got pissed off at Bon Scott for dressing up as Satan.
Still funny as hell, though.
| | | AC/DC vs. Dethklok, hah.
| | | hah and people say the media in America is bad.
| | | this is just too silly
