The band commented:
To provide some distraction towards the end of the year, we bring you our version of this masterpiece Windowpane written by Mikael Ã…kerfeldt and performed by Opeth on their 2003's album "Damnation".
We rearranged the song and gave it our personal touch, bringing forward some things that were always on the back of our minds. It was an interesting process to see how the Tersivel style found its way into the song. We are thrilled about the end result.
This time, we have the immense pleasure of having a special guest on bass: the talented Moncho Echiburu.
Lian Gerbino comments: "Actually, I became aware of Opeth a few years later than this release. I guess it was around the Watershed era when someone lent me the CD. It blew my mind right away. In a few weeks, I was obsessed with Opeth, especially their back catalog at the time; Damnation, Deliverance, Blackwater Park and Still Life. All those records became a source of inspiration in my own musical journey. I can close my eyes and see myself with my old portable CD player putting on one album after the other. In a way, revisiting all these records and making our version of Windowpane was like crossing a bridge towards my younger self. To connect again with it in such a special way is magical".

who?
| | | man i hate nu metal!
| | | the decision to go heavy and harsh vox was certainly a decision
| | | Hmm... This is a review site and not strictly a news site, so I'm gonna be honest.
I skipped the vocal parts because since the lines are really basic, they really need a fullness or an undeniably unique complimentary quality that I'm not fully convinced of in these cleans. The harsh vocals aren't bad, but I'm not feeling the payoff in context. I like the idea of mixing acoustic and clean electric in the intro, but then the overall mix just isn't really hitting for me. It's especially awkward to me during the rhythm of the first solo, like maybe the mastering is off? Was this mastered? The original still sounds more pleasant sound-quality-wise even though that version isn't as crisp as their live recordings.
The drummer sounds good, but then the ride cymbal should probably be different if you're really trying to make the distorted kick-in not feel out of place. I personally would think of adding harmonizations to the original octave higher version, or do that drum switch, because it sort of feels in limbo. Which isn't awful for the lyrical theme, but kicking in distortion at that moment suggests the opposite of that emotion, so it's just a little confusing to me mood-wise.
Overall, good effort, guys, good for you to take some steps towards re-envisioning, but I'm definitely sticking with the original. I hope if my suggestions are read that they aren't taken as unwarranted, arrogant, or ill-intentioned, just grew up loving this era of Opeth.
| | | solid cover, enjoying a twist on the good old original, there are some nice changes and personal touches in here that make it feel fresh and interesting.
| | | Who cares?
| | | I for one am slightly interested.
