legit don't know what they were thinking with this
| |
The vocals are so loud
| |
really wish anders friden would fuck off
| |
Fuck these guys. Whyyyyyyy
| |
I mean it was their last really good album. If anything it's weird how long it's taken them to start cashing in on nostalgia.
| |
"I mean it was their last really good album. If anything it's weird how long it's taken them to start cashing in on nostalgia."
Those of us who prefer the old albums are a vocal minority at this point. This band is making bank these days. 1.5 mil monthly Spotify and they pack out fairly large venues
| |
If this album needed anything it was to be re-recorded without the signature guitar sound that's still being praised by metal producers to this day.
| |
God it just sounds so much less muscular than the original
| |
Sadly, the title track is probably the best of the bunch lol
| |
Are they actual masochists or why do they do this to themselves???
| |
This is just HORRIBLE.
| |
When is this band going to stop destroying their legacy and just break up
| |
Jesus, this is the band that released The Jester Race.
| |
like what did they even add to the song
they just rerecorded it with shittier production and a 20 years older anders who they put right at the top of the mix and dialed to 11
| |
the mixing is terrible on this
| |
"Jesus, this is the band that released The Jester Race."
not really lol only anders and bjorn were in the band when they did that one
| |
Every time I hear something like this I'm more impressed with acts like Ulver, who managed to age and evolve gracefully instead of constantly comparing themselves to their old work. It's been 20 years, this re-recording isn't an improvement, just let the past die.
| |
hey man there's some chorus in your autotune
| |
anders frikkin friden
| |
its alright.
as usual, sput userbase are hysteric doomer sissybabies
| |
Original recording is something that metal producers strive to recreate. Not sure why this was necessary.
| |
Jesper's current band Cyrha sucks too... everyone who has ever crossed Anders' dark path is eventually destroyed
Clayman has turned to silly putty. 'why' is a question I stopped askin with these guys eons and epochs ago. the more pertinent questions are 'how' and 'when'
| |
can they stop being trolls and make some actual good music (no)
| |
This is bad to a fascinating level.
| |
They took a classic song and butchered it. The mixing is so bad.
| |
Comments about modern In Flames are always so dramatic lol
| |
They just cut the balls off from the original. All energy has been sucked out. What a travestoy. But then, I don´t have any expactations from this band anymore. For personally, Clayman was the first record with less compelling songwriting, but still a good record that still had the signature In Flames sound. The successor already sounded totally different and not in a good way. Sterile, cold, lack of power. But still decent songs. And then Soundtrack to your escape happend. The last album I bought from them (and sold it afterwards). Too bad...
| |
Oooh..a good one here. They...they dropped the ball on this one. Aaahhahah..see what I did there? Roflmao..
-_-
| |
Good God the production sounds soooo thin and way too heavy on the vocals. Never understand why they thought this record needed a rerecording. The chorus effects on anders vocals are atrocious.
| |
It's sad that people will probably buy this, and the band will feel like they did a good thing shitting on their own songs.
| |
Sounds like a demo. I dread to think what they've done with Swim...
| |
in flames comments really do be a genre unto itself
| |
"not really lol only anders and bjorn were in the band when they did that one"
It's just a manner of speech lol, but yeah.
| |
"Sounds like a demo. I dread to think what they've done with Swim..."
Thankfully they didn't re-record that song for this. It is in their "Themes and Variations in D-Minor" which is actually really awesome. I would've preferred an entire rerecording album like this.
| |
when you have a super simplistic variety of melodeath like clayman u gotta have the meaty production, this is wet noodle metal
| |
@Poet Oh yeah, good spot. Guess I didn't look that closely a the track listing. Will check out the Themes and Variations - is it available anywhere?
| |
"Re-recorded songs were produced by Howard Benson"
That tells me everything I need to hear
| |
HOW DO YOU THINK HE DOES IT??
| |
Candy and a white van, or in these guys' case it's gin and a white van
| |
Howard fucking Benson. This guy ruins every fucking band he touch.
| |
this makes me appreciate the classic pinball map a lot more
| |
Worst producer in history?
| |
He did good work with POD, MCR, and Saosin at least
| |
"Will check out the Themes and Variations - is it available anywhere?"
I listened to it on Youtube this morning.
| |
The themes and variations track is actually really cool
| |
(previously) good track (now shidded and farded on)
| |
wowwww hemes and variations in d-minor brought me some chills
| |
they should have just released an entire classical version of clayman
| |
Sounds alright imo, but I just listened to the original again and I really don't understand why they see the need to re-record it. Still sounds pretty good by today's standards and that new version certainly doesn't improve the song.
| |
I really like the idea of re-recording this, but it just didn't turn out so well. Go listen to Only For the Weak, it seemed like it could be good because it's closer to their newer style, but it just sounds weird.
| |
and now for the positives I have to say about their re-recording EP...
a.) as weird as it is to say "Anders", "clean vox", n "good" in the same sentence, the songs benefit from his stronger cleans n at-least-it's-better-than-before tunefulness. his cleans on their current original stuff is mostly woolly mammoth buffalo ass, however
b.) everything positive that In Flames does anymore might be always too little, too late/desperate necessity - but it's good to see even a half-ass effort that succeeds on a few (mostly minor) levels. the "Battles" atrocity didn't blow them up into hookers/blow/fueds over twitter territory, so Howard Benson (who I picture wearing a bowtie lookin like Drew Carey) advised them to dial up the miniscule heaviness they are capable of, namedrop vintage In Flames records on a song for no reason that explains why their paycheck/enabler comes in a beggar cup from 1842... the cover songs EP and now this EP of perfunctory fan service that just further confuses their COVID-vacuum of a fanbase... so, Howard goes "heyyy guys it's time for a contrived, fugazi back-to-the-roots grand-stand play that surely will rock the metulz universe! trust me, I'm the one and only Howard Benson, after all! I babysitted Bob Rock's giraffe!" - then suddenly the world ended before they got to release another EP where a choir of unfed dogs were to howl "Moonshield Medley" to a plastic harmonica doin its equivalent of a blastbeat n Jesper gettin run over by a truck clearly driven by Anders in a glasses/moustache disguise. I've rambled off the edge of the multiverse - In Flames we trust (RIP Earth)
c.) the misleading ambiguous intro that shows off Bjorn Gelotte's ultra-virtuoso skills at stealing a bonus track off of Apocalyptica's new cassette-only straight-to-Beta.... I'll stop right there, cuz we don't want another b.) on our hands ^^ o_O do we.
all in all, a sincere effort to piss masochistic pseudo-fans off... and functioned as a great medium and outlet to be bizarre to little avail. thank you for enduring my peyote trip. please feel free to skim-read it for keywords to go off on while missing the point by 10 troll-friendly pigskin football-fields. or just whistle while peeing in a cup. hi
| |
lol
| |
It's not successful at all dude lol.
| |
not sure what you are all so upset about. The video is pretty sweet, and sure the original is better, and properly mixed and all, but this is a great track for a younger audience
| |
It's not super terrible but it mostly just makes me sad knowing what this band used to be.
| |
it's not like it's a modern take on the song. it's the same song with worse production and vocals
| |
> not sure what you are all so upset about. The video is pretty sweet, and sure the original is better, and properly mixed and all, but this is a great track for a younger audience
bastardizing their own good music with hopes of making a quick buck is pretty annoying, why not just write new music that sounds like their old stuff if this is what they're going to do with it (pipe dream at best of course)
