Chris Adler leaves Lamb of God

2019-07-19 by Toondude | 32 Comments
American metal group Lamb of God have officially announced that their drummer and founding member, Chris Adler, has departed from the band. He will be replaced by Prong and Winds of Plague drummer Art Cruz, who has been touring with the band since last year.

Adler's hiatus began after he fell victim to a motorcycle accident, and the status of his health remains unclear at the moment. Lamb of God are currently planning to release a new full-length album sometime later this year, with Cruz taking place as the band's drummer for the recording sessions. It will be the band's first release without Adler.

The band issued a statement in social media that reads:

Dear Lamb of God fans,

We returned last week from a great European festival run and our final tour with Slayer in North America. We are excited to keep the momentum going and dive into the next record.

We'd like to officially welcome Art Cruz, who has been playing drums with us on tour for the last year, as the new drummer of Lamb of God. Art will be joining us in the studio as we begin pre-production and recording of a new album.

We're very proud of everything this band has accomplished over the last two decades. We would like to thank Chris Adler for his contributions over the years and wish him the best in his future endeavors.

Thank you,
John, Mark, Randy & Willie

Adler's final record with the group was Legion: XX, a covers album under the band's original moniker, Burn the Priest, which was released on May 18th, 2018.

Shame really. Chris is one of the best drummers around. Sad to see him leave.

He's probably sick of playing the same thing since 2003.

Crazy. He's also the band dad. Basically management iirc. Wonder if he'll continue on that front.

I've thought something was up ever since that interview he did with Sam Dunn back in like '15 when he said playing with Megadeth is where he wanted to end up.

Man, that's really sad to hear. I'm a huge fan of both Chris and the band, he's easily one of the most gifted drummers in the game.

This is a bummer tbh
On the other hand, Art Cruz is a perfectly fine drummer. I have no doubt he'll be able to play Chris' stuff effortlessly. It's just that when it comes down to the new material I'm curious whether he'll be able to bring as much to the table as Chris did. Time will tell.

Damn this sucks. Art is a fantastic drummer for sure, but Chris is just unique and such an integral part of the LoG sound, I don't know how are they gonna do it. Chris is one of those few drummers you instantly know it's him as soon as you hear him playing, hard to replace something like that.

Holy shit. One of my idols as I started taking to the kit. I feel like he's lost a bit of his chops after seeing some recent live footage of him. Definitely an influential and awesome drummer. Contributed a lot

Dude was a god in his earlier days when the music really seemed to matter. LoG is not LoG without Chris IMO.

I saw Art play with them at Hellfest and i mean he was not terrible but he was not as tight as Adler, and as for LoG, idk the way they are parting ways with such a essential member sounds... pretty indifferent?

Yeah, there's definitely more to this, that weak-ass statement can't be all on the subject.

I'm almost willing to bet money that Chris is gonna say he was kicked out or found out he was out of the band on Blabbermouth. For the departure of a member who's been there since the beginning, that statement is way too detached to not be suspicious.

Yeah, and considering his brother is still in the band it makes it even weirder. There's definitely some information they haven't disclosed yet.

LoG is way past their prime so they should call it quits already. They're not doing anything new or interesting anymore

I agree that Chris might have lost some of what made him great. Wonder if that contributed to stepping down?
