DFHVN Sample New Song "Near"

2018-05-10 by Brandon Scott EMERITUS | 31 Comments
San Franciscan post-blackish metallers Deafheaven have shared a one minute excerpt of the song "Near" from their upcoming album Ordinary Corrupt Human Love, which is due to be released July 13, 2018. The sample shows the band during the recording process of the new album backed by a softer, shoegazing passage.

I do really dig that sample, but yeah. Less hyped for this than I should be.

i think it's that the last two albums had fantastic lead singles, and Honeycomb just didn't live up to that standard. it's a good track, but it's no Dream House or Brought to the Water. and this short clip is, again, cool, but not exactly mind-blowing

Just as boring as everything else they've ever released.

Also, a lot of this seems to have the same pace and rhythm as Come Back off of their last record (the 6:28 mark to be exact). I'm all for more shoe gazey goodness but a lot of the riffs and ideas from their past 2 songs they've shown on this record seem to have refurbished ideas and riffs. I'm not a fan of that.

I don't get it Honeycomb is phenomenal imo, considerably better than New Bermuda besides Brought to the Water and Gifts For the Earth

it's also a good way to make use of limited character space in article titles

Eh it's the 5th news article for the band and the only one using this abbreviation, maybe I'm just anal about consistency but I think it's just inconsistent and tacky.

/shrug DFHVN is a pretty common abbreviation of their name. They have used/continue to use it on some of their own merch.

I just mean their marketing for albums pre-release. they did this same shit for NB and, if I'm remembering correctly, it was the same shit: 1 metal track and an acoustic teaser.

Negative. The teaser was the opening blast beat section of Come Back and then they released Brought to the Water and Come Back in their entirety as promo for the album. While we haven't heard enough from the album to comment there, the marketing for this album feels very different and more planned out than the last album.
