Canadian progressive metalcore band The Afterimage have released a new single titled "Pursue". No news on a new album has come with the release, so for now it is just a standalone single. Listen to the new single here:

Hopefully, I'm not the only one who feels this but...

This song wasn't great. Like it had their flare to it, interesting guitars and great screams. But first, it sounds like the way they went about writing Lumiere, was thrown right out the window. The groovy guitars and Post-Hardcore thriving guitar were just forgotten. And don't get me started on the clean vocals. So unenthusiastic, horribly auto-tuned, and just sounds like something from I See Stars. The song is just extremely forgettable. My theory is that this was a song for Lumiere, but wasn't good enough so they got rid of it. A new producer comes in (which is true) and sees the song and says "perfect song lets use it" and Afterimage nods their heads and says "sure."
My thoughts though, I know some people are loving this single, and you keep loving it!

Well the song riffs hard, but yeah, the clean vocals are pretty terrible. The little electronic break at 2:20 is awful as well.

Cleans steal away any testosterone this track had

Definitely a left over from Lumiere.

Does anyone remember leading to the release of Lumiere, they posted that they were in the process of making "rock" oriented tracks for a follow-up? This just makes me wonder when those are coming lol

Yea this wasn't on par with Lumiere for sure, the cleans really took away a lot of momentum from the track

What sucks is that Sam Jacobs left the band. He was responsible for their best tracks: Onyx, The Unseen, The Seeking.

Agreed about the horrendous auto tune portion @2:20. Ruins the song.

Thanks for the feedback, guys and for checking out the song! Quick correction for you OwMySnauze, Sam did not write The Unseen or The Seeking. That was written by the original guitarist Alex. Onyx was written for the most part by Michael Leo Valeri, Sam contributed a couple of riffs and tracked the guitars on the final recordings. Finally, if you liked any of our prior music there will be some songs for you on the album. Lots of brand new stuff to come.

I liked it. It seems a lot more concise and less all over the place than lumiere. It's a little generic, but it's done well, especially the guitar work. I also really enjoy the cleans, they remind me of HLH. Overall, I'm curious enough to check a new album whenever one may come out.

I'm still excited to hear more for sure, because everything other than the cleans was great. It's weird because I dig the cleans on Lumiere, these just kinda fell flat

The vocals sound great as always and the instruments on point as well. It was just that auto tune part that irked. Excited for their upcoming album nonetheless.

The clean vocals on this rule, no idea what y'all are talking about.

It's not that they were bad, they just took away all the momentum from the song. I love his cleans, they augmented the sound on Lumiere for the better

When will the guitarist realize that Ascariasis was the better band with more potential?

Really felt like these guys found their true sound with tracks: OYNX, The Seeking and The Unseen. No need to deviate to other sounds if those tracks encompass what the majority of their fan base enjoys. I get that they're trying new stuff but there's that old saying... if it isn't broken, don't fix it.

Ascariasis was WAY better than this band, especially that last single they put out... FML
