New Tool track?

2015-11-01 by hobblepot | 82 Comments
Prog Metal band Tool recently played what seemed to be part of a new song live at Monster Mash festival this Halloween. Some fans are skeptical, claiming it might purely have been part of a bridge between songs, but many are stating this could be a new song, the first new song from the band in almost 10 years. If it is a new track, it is unlikely the band will be clarifying anytime soon. You can listen below:

I also find it funny how Tool are considered one of the best prog metal groups, and have two of the most critically acclaimed albums under their belts, and yet you're all wishing they'd split and never do another album.

No wonder Maynard hates his fans... I don't blame him.

Lol, this again. He called the fanatical fans retards. That's not having a dickish attitude, that's just telling the truth.

And if anyone replies saying "fan is short for fanatic hur dur" I will slap them in the mouth.

"snide coolguy" thanks for this expression. Everywhere you find "stupid fanboys" you have "snide coolguys" to tell them "you're stupid fanboys" and act superior. It's a real ecosystem. The snide coolguys prey on the stupid fanboys but usually they're former fanboys who somewhat slowly realized it was leading them nowhere and became bitter and cynical, I believe.

No matter what they release at this point (if they even do release anything) - it will crumble under the weight of public frustration. It's not even about high expectations anymore. Tool have dug a PR grave for themselves among most of the music community. Granted, it might've not been their fault entirely - those entries about a legal dispute over atrwork seemed to shed some light on the overbearingly long pause - but at this point I feel like they've alienated a major portion of their own fans.

"I also find it funny how Tool are considered one of the best prog metal groups, and have two of the most critically acclaimed albums under their belts, and yet you're all wishing they'd split and never do another album."

They have released two (fairly) acclaimed albums, one decent album (Undertow, which has not aged well) one average album, (I am a fan and even I think 10,000 days is a bit of a mess) an EP and a live mish mash. They have been together for 25 years.

I am not surprised people want them to wrap it up after being strung along for so long. There are a stack of other bands which release regular fantastic albums without all the nonsense. The fans have grown out of it and they are riding on the coat tails of success from almost 15 years ago.

"Oh but legal problems...But Maynards doing side projects"

Smaller bands have these issues and still manage to release quality albums consistently.

Obviously tool fans are excited. Think of how desperate they are for a taste of new music, being that it's almost been 10 years since their last glimse of new music. Maynard has starved Tool fans and a taste of anything new obviously excites them.

Even still, if this is a new tool song, their next album is going to be incredible.

Why is this news?
Just throw them on the retirement pile with RATM and SOAD. If they every do anything other then vaguely teasing a album, doing a few live shows, or making a slightly offensive comment then we will all be surprised because the chances of that happening are the same as me waking up tomorrow as a leprechaun.
