Faith No More, motherfucker

2014-11-19 by Insurrection | 114 Comments
Critically acclaimed alternative rock legends Faith No More have released the first single off their upcoming 7th studio album, 'Motherfucker'. The album is set for a 2015 release and will be the band's first studio album in 18 years.

Roddy Bottum (keyboards) said this about the track:

"It feels apt that the first track we're releasing is 'Motherfucker,' a song about accountability. Basically we've created, recorded and mixed a new body of work by ourselves and we're releasing it on our own label. It's a huge deal for us to only have ourselves to answer to at this point in our career and the song is about that, where the buck stops via the basic imagery of foie gras production, bondage... y'know, stuff like that".

The song is decent and gives me hope for the quality of the album as a whole; however, I personally find over-reliance upon profanity to be distasteful in music. When half of a song is spent with the word "motherfucker" being repeated ad nauseum, the lyricism is severely undermined. When the word itself is the song's title, I lose interest.

This reeks of canned juvenile angst, opened well past its expiration date. I can see myself skipping this track if I ever buy the album.

let's be honest this is kinda monotonous
the chord structure is something a 8 years old could come up with
the lyrics and the instrumentation are ok but nothing special
the song structure is the same a-b-a-b-solo... stuff that we heard million times

ironically I know some fans of this band who hate artists like Asking Alexandria and Attack Attack because they're "generic" and "primitive" (after all this song is so complex and original lol)

think of it this way - faith no more hasn't released an album in 18 years. this is the group calling out the stagnant releases that stand for 'the best'

in fact, this should be linked into the yearly list right after flylo as we scramble to hold someone responsible for that travesty
