Pestilence call it quits

2014-07-09 by Voivod STAFF | 35 Comments
Patrick Mammelli, main man in the jazzy death metal outfit Pestilence, said that the band will be put on "permanent hold". From now on, Mammeli will concentrate on his new project, titled Necromorph.

In his own words:

As of now, Pestilence is no longer active in recording new material. As a matter of fact, it's on a permanent hold, as I want to concentrate fully on my new project Necromorph. The style will be more brutal, more crazy, more tech, more futuristic and more death. I'm pretty sure all my fans will dig this! Please don't be sad about Pestilence. We've been holding the Pest flag strong for 25 years and we feel it's now done. I thank all my fans for being there and supporting us all the way.

If there is any interest in Pestilence doing old school shows in the future, me and Patrick Uterwijk, will surely think about the options. I thanks all the Pestilence members since '86 for their musical talent and input.

HAILZ TO THE FANS, we all love you.

Now, let's give birth to NECROMORPH!!!!!!

I remember enjoying Testimony of the Ancients back in the day.

Resurrection Macabre was decent, don't know about the other two albums.

Shame. Every album before the reformation was infinitely better, but Obsideo was nowhere near as much of an abortion as Doctrine. Still haven't heard Resurrection Macabre but I don't know if I'll bother.

thank you for showing us logic, how silly of us to think the band could rest in peace.

It's kind of a shame, because Pestilence were cool, but the reformation albums were kind of meh. It's better off this way.

New project sounds cool

I actually got a semblance of a kick out of Doctrine, there were some nice moments that were slightly reminiscent of Spheres. But yeah, Spheres is where it's at.

Finally they figured out how shitty they've become!

Shit band. No care ever.

You must have only heard their recent stuff because they've written 3 albums of classics.

I had a tape with Consvming Impvlse on one side and Obituary's Cause of Death on the other. Yes, it was criminal.
I heard the shit out of that tape.

"more like Spheres being the only record I actually care about, and care about quite a bit :P"

I wouldn't go that far, I love all their old albums. Malleus is one of the most underrated, straight up relentless fucking thrash albums ever, Consuming Impulse brings the riffs, and Testimony of the Ancients is fucking awesome. But I agree with you about Spheres being my favourite. I can see why people shit on it, but if you dig fusion and weird shit like Voivod, it's an amazing album, and there's nothing that sounds like it.
