New Judas Priest album is done

2014-03-19 by RunOfTheMill | 39 Comments
Rob Halford, legendary vocalist of classic metal band Judas Priest, confirmed in an
interview that the new Priest album is done.

“The record is absolutely finished as of today,” he tells Artisan news. “It’s a relief,
because whenever Priest make an album you put your heart and soul into it. It’s not an easy
thing to do 40 years later."

Six years since their last album, the rather ambitious Nostradamus, Rob has described
the new album as having the classic Priest sound.

Nah, it'll probably suck. Band's nothing sans-KK.

Stoked even though it very well could suck. Priest and Metallica are my faves so how can I help it.

After four decades of music I honestly don't believe that the band can still surprise. Sweet news nevertheless.

KK was the heart & soul of the band. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe he was their main songwriter.

Tipton is the main songwriter, but KK contributed in most tracks. Halford usually wrote the lyrics.

I believe he was their main songwriter.

On Rocka Rolla, he was, but he, Glenn, and Rob contributed to Priest equally from Sad Wings on. I have no idea how good / bad of a songwriter Faulkner is, but he's a very good guitarist. I'm staying optimistic :D

Yeah, I did some research on darklyrics and you guys are right. Still, he played an essential role in the Priest sound. We'll see what happens though.

@RunOfTheMill so that's why Rocka Rolla sucks ;) Especially that one song...

Hell, out of the 9 songs on Stained Class, KK only has two songwriting credits.

Friday bro, you better be kidding.

But yeah, few have contributed to the guitar as much as KK and Glenn
did. They perfected the guitar duo formula.

They've mostly sucked after PK anyways. The "Metal Gods" are just mere mortals now, shadows of their former selves.

Problem with Priest is that for every DotF, SWoD, PK, there's a Nost, Turbo, RiD. And Murray/Smith beat KK/Tipton every time except maybe on Sentinel still love the 7 guitar lead changes 30yrs on.

Priest was one of the bands which inspired me to play guitar, and I'll always hold them in high regard for that, even if their songwriting has been inconsistent as fuck.

I liked Nostradamus. It felt like a logical step. Had some great symphonic elements, and great contributions from Don Airey.
