we have protools for mac. and an interface. and are really comfortable with it. and the whole point of raising this money is so we don't have to keep doing it the ghetto way.

With $2,500 we can buy a decent Mac Pro, with $5,000 we can buy a super powerful Mac Pro.

Band be trolling, quick search shows top of the line Mac Book's with Core i7 Processors and such are only a few grand.

But yeah that's really unnecessary, but they're not exactly saying they need that one, just a 2.5 grand one.

IDK guys maybe don't donate then? I don't see anything wrong with asking fans for something a little nicer and giving them something in return if they pledge a certain amount. They're telling fans outright what it's for, they don't have to pledge if they don't want to but I'm sure plenty of people are happy to. As they said, they've used their own money in the past and gave away the albums for free. But fuck them right guys?

Well my whole point in my earlier post is, how can you really complain about a band that has consistently spent their own money on recording costs, made incredible albums, released them for free, are now needing funds to be able to record a new album for fans, and are asking fans for the money and offering cool items in return? They've told their fans up front what they want the money for, and any fans donating know where their money is going. If that's somehow unfair, it's their fault for donating it.

No one has to pay anything. The band is willing to buy a lesser computer in order to make the vinyl pressings possible if necessary. This band has shown huge generosity in pretty much every other case. Okay so they're asking for money now, but a lot of people thought they would be done by now, and they're making an album for the fans that love them, so why should they be forced to shell out their own cash to make that happen?

Check out that Naps review. The summary says Kidcrash: an earnest goodbye? So shouldn't we be happy about the option to keep them around? Jokes was a huge sputnik album, and their drummer commented in the main thread for it quite a bit, talking with users about the album, outlining how it was recorded, etc.

tl;dr: It's fucking insane to complain about this. The band has consistently been so much cooler than other bands, and need money because they released their other killer releases for free. They deserve everything they get and more. STFU if you have a problem with this.

And jdennis, I know you ended up sounding grateful for the album in your second post. I just want to clear up any discrepancy over whether or not what Kidcrash are doing is acceptable because IMO they deserve so much more than what they're asking for.

never knew anything about the band which is why i commented on the thread topic and not the band specifically but knowing the whole releasing music for free and interacting with fans does make me more eager to donate.

don't understand the logic behind this. what makes mac's more "intuitive" or "superior for music". the gui's are the same, the hardware capabilities are the same except for maybe cooling abilities. all (or almost all) software is available for both mac and pc. does it have something to do with hotkeys or shortcuts? because once again those can be configured for a pc, or a DAW keyboard/attachment can also be purchased.

Reason and Finale both have a much better interface on mac and those are what i use so

esp finale my god finale 2010 on windows is fucking atrocious

can't speak for finale... but i've used reason on my home built pc and i've used reason on a macbook pro... gui's were the same on both.

Hey, Alex here. First off, thanks everyone for the support. I honestly didn't think we were gonna
make any money from this thing in the first place, and it's really baffling how generous everyone
has been.

Funnily enough, Buster made the Kickstarter on a whim without talking to any of us first, except for
sending me a text that said "Wouldn't it be cool if we had a computer to record with?" I said that
of course it would because mine that I got in 2004 is broken. But hey, this why we love/hate Buster
- because he really goes for it!

It looks like that we'll be able to use the money on a new computer and to go on another tour in the
US, something we haven't be able to afford to do in a loooooong while (we've only been able to tour
Europe because we can actually break even there.) I'm the one who actually does the recordings, and
I know what we "need" that's not overkill. My point is that any extra money is gonna be put toward
us doing things we couldn't afford otherwise, not just into a bunch of gear. That'd be dumb. You
know, I'm sure that perhaps we could get a cheaper Windows machine, and I'll have to look into that.


Anyway, I just wanted to ramble a bit because I really care what people think around here,
especially because Sputnik readers/contributors have been so supportive of us over the years.

I really hope our next record is our best, and even that guy Iluvatar likes it.
