Isis to Release 5 Live Albums

2011-05-12 by Alex Newton | 64 Comments
Just under a year after their break up, post-metal band Isis have announced that five live recordings from their back-catalogue will be released digitally this summer. Four are of single shows and a fifth is a compilation. They will be released every two weeks between May 31 and July 26.

Individually the albums are priced at $5.99, while the whole set is $20.

Each one is an hour long...It's Isis, so whatever they release, it'll be amazing.

Heard about this a few days ago, kind of stoked, but wishing this was new material instead of back-catalogue. No, it's not a reunion, posthumous.

I remember watching a video of them performing Panopticon start to finish and being absolutely blown away. These guys are the number one band I regret not seeing live. I still pray to Odin every night for their reunion, but, going by the very nature of the band, I'm betting that's not going to happen.

Well maybe if they ran out of money there will be a reunion. Unlikely seeing that Aaron turner runs a pretty successful label and has other projects.

Damn I wish I had seen them live...

I saw them once just before they announced their break up. It was good but they strictly played stuff from Wavering Radiant.

yeah but they're relatively hard to get. I ordered Live V from some company called.Blue Collar Industries, I was pretty sure it was a scam at the time...but it's an amazing record. Reviewed it here.

I think the band called it quits at the right time. With this kind of music, it takes a lot of creativity and progression and when you get to a certain point where you start becoming an imitation of yourself, that's when bands should call it quits.

They hadn't quite gotten to that point, and actually Wavering Radiant was awesome. But they obviously felt like the project had run it's creative course and I respect them for that.

Think about how much more respect Dredg would have now if they stopped after Catch Without Arms?

NOW look at them. They are a fucking joke.

They sound awesome live. I just wonder if they were able to capture that on these albums, as most bands aren't really able to.

I hope one of the sets is heavy on Oceanic and In the Absence of Truth material. With So Did We as the closing song. Too much to hope for?

Nearly all of those releases range from average to terrible - mostly due to the sound quality being worse than the early Napalm Death demos. Seriously.
Live V is amazing, though. Sounds WAY batter than the Oceanic LP.

@Fenix Zero
Have you listened to any of their other stuff, dude? All their LP's are amazing in their own right and a bit different from one another so you should try them all.
Oceanic took me ages to get into, but it's my second favourite, right after Panopticon.

Wait - are these 5 live albums just rereleases/remasters of the old Live 1-5 set they have? Because that would be disappointing, since they're mostly old shows and some of them are audience bootlegs.

It sure is taking awhile for them to release Live 2! Live 1 was available about a week before the preorder date of May 31st. Live 2 was scheduled for release last tuesday (the 14th). It is now the 19th. What gives!?
