All Shall Perish Guitarist Leaves

2009-04-02 by A7XEric | 30 Comments
Lead guitarist of All Shall Perish, Chris Storey, has recently left the California deathcore quintet. In the band's most recent press release, this was what they had to say:
Quote:
Im not going to lie to you...being in a band is fucking hard. We have always compared it to a 5 way polyamorous gay marriage; and if you think you have it hard with your significant other, try having 4 who all are as different as the village people (except we are all actually gay).
Anyways, what im getting at is that there is no easy way to explain this stuff other than its no different than being in a relationship. Somtimes things build up, and sometimes you grow apart. Like some people have said on the comments...we are not breaking up and are still going to shred your faces off live with our new guitar player who will silence all critics VERY soon :) You guys know we don't write the same record twice, and we weren't going to with Chris or with anyone. We will cum in your ear pussies soon enough to show you what we mean.
The band has already announced a replacement for Chris, that being relatively unheard of guitarist Jason Richardson. For the band's entire press release just follow the link below.

Look you gibbons, when someone has already remarked that the news is old, you're not reaching a higher level of awesomeness by repeating the same comment. Go do something constructive instead.

Ontopic: Great news, Chris was getting way too wankery on the guitar. Jawdropping from a technical aspect, but it didn't help the songwriting and made it feel guitar-geeky. Hope this new guy doesn't use the same approach.

So what if a guitarist has the ability to play technically proficient. It definitely helps the songwriting, u think that if he wasn;t in the band to begin with ASP would just be another lame deathcore band (a lot of people still say they are). Technical proficiency brings more to a band than one would think. Tell me a name of a band who has an incredibly technical guitarist that didn't make his band more famous, or more well known because their playing?

Maybe i'm just a guitar nerd, but all i'm saying is, if you had the ability to play like that i'm pretty sure you would want to put it into your music. This Message Edited On 04.03.09

I thought it was quite obvious I was referring to his solo's, which are nothing but as-fast-as-possible scales being worked up and down. Really, really impressive from a technical aspect but it doesn't tell a story like an emotional solo could. To me, it's exactly this shred-wankery that made Awaken the Dreamers somewhat lame. Just read posts as opinions and not as facts.

Also, I've never really met anyone who gave a damn beyond a "Yeah, that's pretty fast, wow." and wasn't a guitar player him/herself. Next to that, I know a shitload of kids who can play mindblowing solo's and work sweeps like crazy. Writing a good song is an entirely different quality imo. This Message Edited On 04.03.09

Actual good players know how to combine both. I would rather be technically proficient and have the ability to write some emotional solo rather than just have the emotional aspect. It just brings more to the table.

I do think that Chris could have switched things up a bit more on Awaken the Dreamers.

Extremely old. However, I could never really get into this band. They're quite overrated. Still, their guitarist was the only thing that made them somewhat original in their genre.

I'm not a fan of Deathcore, but these guys do somewhat remind me of Swedish Death Metal, and for that, I give them props. They're pretty much the only Deathcore band I listen to. Their latest release was tops, the others had too many breakdowns, which was a bit too much to swallow. Can't wait for the next release. Hopefully, it's as melodic as the previous, and not as redundant as the first.
