Opeth Finish Album and To Tour 2008-01-11 by VicariousIntent | 22 Comments |
According to www.MetalUnderground.com, Opeth has not only finished their new album, but is plan a series of live shows for the future. In Mikael Ã…kerfeldt's own words...
"As some of you might know Opeth is doing a pretty rare gig on March 8th. A big fucking boat will be crossing the Nordic sea in the middle of the night, and onboard you'll hear some Swedish fucking prog whatever bollocks death type music! The Mellotronen store (the company sponsoring the event) has now closed down but you can reach them through their website at Mellotronen.com and read the blog about this event. You can also see the concert poster artwork, done by Roger Wooton and Glen Goring from COMUS. For me, this is insanely awesome that they've created this one especially for this event.??This gig will be our warm up for the coming UK and US tour and we are most likely going to premier a new song on there plus a few old tunes. On top of that Comus are playing (for the first time since 1972), KATATONIA, LEAFHOUND, ANEKDOTEN, the legendary BO HANSSON and many more. There are some planned secret appearances that I can't really speak of but they will become legendary, no question about it.??It will be a nice trip I'm sure, lots of talk about obscure bands, lots of drinking, gambling (not me) and stuff like that. Maybe some of you will get lucky. I'll be nervous but it'll be awesome. Hope to see some of you there. I don't know how big the capacity of this boat is but I certainly advise you guys to check out the availability of the tickets well in advance as this is a one-time only happening.??Anything else? Hmmmm... let's see... Oh, of course! The album is done, mixed and all. I'm listening to it right now. I want to boast, but I'll keep it together and do it later instead. More info on this soon!"
First article post, don't kill me if I did something wrong ]:

I'm suprised how much i'm looking forward to hearing this.

a boat? thats wild.

I was expecting more info on the album, and tour.

Woop dee doo?
I'm just going to stay neutral on this one until I hear it. No Opeth fanboy-ism here.

I'm looking forward to this because I always seem to like a band's latest album first before delving into their back catalogue, I only have two opeth albums (morningrise and BP) and only Morningrise impressed me while I found BP completely underwhelming, I'm hoping they manage to turn me with this.

Only good thing about this news is Comus playing.
|
| |
Extremely excited for this, but I'm a little unsure about how it'll turn out.

This is really exciting! And where the hell is the Nordic Sea? Im guessing its not in New Jersey, so I cant look forward to that

I was wondering when someone would post this.
Just got Sol Niger Within from Mellotronen and got a promotion card about this. Fredrik Thordendal from Meshuggah will also be among the bands if I'm not mistaken, and will perform Sol Niger Within live for the first time ever!
When is there a release date??? I can't fucking wait for this!
Hopefully the boat doesn't have an accident. Would be a shame with this band.

FINALLY A NEW RECORD, gotta tell ya when I heard the Roundhouse DVD was pushed back I was thinking a new album was lightyears away. Perdiction for new album is a 2008 version of "My arms your Hearse meets Deliverance"

Would be cool if they got back to Orchid/Morningrise territory just with an updated sound and a better drummer. Or at least close to it.

I don't think they will. I can't remember if it was the documentary on the Lamentations dvd, or if it was on the extended edition of Ghost Reveries (probably Ghost Reveries), but Akerfeldt mentions that he cannot stand some of the music the band used to play during the first two albums. So I doubt that's the direction the band will take, but it would be interesting to hear with the other 6 albums under their belt.

I'm predicting it will sound badass.
