Probably the best thing they’ve done since Gontier left. It’s still butt rock but it’s fun
|
| |
Some of the vocal processing is really iffy, and the blatant nostalgia bait with that 'Animal I Have Become' wannabe bass/kick intro borders on hilarious, but this is ok.
|
| |
Verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus. I'm not really a fan of the band, but I was looking forward to hearing the duality between the vocalists, and on that end the song delivered. I'd like to see them approach a different songwriting attitude, or try something new riff-wise, but clearly that's not going to happen. So, for what this was, it was adequate

Nice Breaking Benjamin tribute band
|

These guys couldn't just...
learn to fly?
|
| |
It's hard to fly when you can't even run
|

The best that Gontier has sounded on a TDG track since Life Starts Now. Matt works his tail off to keep up, sounding just as bitey and expressive despite his more boyish (and decidedly inferior, at least to Adam) vocals
It absolutely beats the pants off anything they've done since Adam left. Beyond excited for what this all-star lineup cooks up
|
| |
yeah this is kind of goofy but in an endearing way, you can tell they had fun with this one even if its structurally basic as hell. Adam sounds great.
|
| |
Not bad lol
|
| |
they sound like the butt rock version of mark hoppus and tom delonge
|

WHERE ARE YE-UUUU
AND I'M SO SORE-EEE
I CAN-NAUGHT SLEEP
I CAN-NAUGHT DREAM TONAUGHT

Bands sucked since One X. Not expecting much but hoping for the best

Bands sucked since they first existed. Not expecting much but hoping they stop soon

Good song
|
| |
Pretty nostalgic to hear his voice in the band again, but goddamn the other guy is awful
|
| |
this was surprisingly decent
|
| |
@Brabiz I think Matt is a good singer, but his vocals are obnoxiously processed.
|
| |
"We walk like dead people who haven't died yet" oh my this lyric is horrible
Final chorus interplay is quite fun though, song is pretty good in general outside of that abominable lyric
|
| |
not the best, not terrible
wanted more from a gontier reunion song
|

I Hate Everything About Porn Star Dancing…
…just missing the obligatory Chad Kroeger cameo to get peak c*ck-rock nostalgia.
Roll in it, yah filthy b*stards! Revel in the stain upon thy pretentious souls!
|
| |
Really enjoyed this
|
| |
this is a fun idea, really wish I felt anything for the other guy’s vocals but Adam legit sounds great. I’ll def have to jam this just for old times sake
|
| |
I quite like matts voice. Good balance of both vocalists, but Adam’s voices is obviously the better one. Really like the idea of this. I’ll definitely be checking out the new album
|
| |
Matt's voice was always better suited to the style of My Darkest Days, imo. He's pretty solid on both of the MDD albums.
His biggest problem is when he's trying too hard to emulate Gontier - he just can't pull it off as much as he wants to.
|
| |
Never been much into TDG outside of their big Adam singles (plus I Am Machine for some reason). They're the equivalent of rock junk food to me: objectively not good, but you can't help but enjoy it all the same
|
| |
Honestly not even that bad of a song. Butt rock for sure but it's got some fun things going for it
|
| |
The vocals are very autotuned, I'd have an easier time listening to this junk if it wasn't this bad.
Didn't they say they wanted to create something no band has ever done? Yeeeeeeea
|
| |
I mean, they're definitely referring to the concept of founding front man returning while replacement stays on when they say "something no band has done", but I'm sure there are *plenty* of other bands who've done that, yes?
|
| |
I mean yeah that’s what I mean when I say it’s fun but this song would literally be better if it was just Adam lol
and even then it still wouldn’t be good
|
| |
What a snooze fest, hoped it would be much more exciting.
|
| |
Helloween has kept all three of their vocalists at this point, so...
|
| |
This is basically what I expected lol
|
| |
Better than the new Opeth tbh
|
| |
wowow badbadbadbadbadbadbadbadbadbad
|
| |
13 year old Fowl is losing his shit, sucks this song sucks really hard
|
| |
Yea, pretty much. It's a weird thing seeing how some bands I liked as a teenager hold up perfectly while other are just hot garbage
|
| |
well this is super lame. Looks like an 11 year old came up with the music video.
|
| |
Ironic since it seems like an 11 year old wrote the lyrics as well
|
| |
"We walk like dead people who haven't died yet"
Checks out
|
| |
Love hearing Adam back with the band, it just sounds right. Other vocalist needs to leave though.
|
| |
i thought this was absolutely horrible.
Need all Gontier.
sounds like the poop theyve been bathing in since he left.
|
| |
I think Outsider is awesome, but yeah, they kinda messed up after TOV.
|
| |
New single is horrendous
|
| |
New single is aggressively mid
|
| |
New single is a mess
|
| |
There's a new single? Or are we still talking about 'Mayday'?

Ew.
Mainstream Rock without autotune and vocal effects is dead
|
| |
album cover is sick as fuck tho
|
| |
We overlooked Dominate and now another song dropped. Both are dope and they have band's best guitar work since 2015.

'Kill Me Fast' is a fairly solid ballad very strongly reminiscent of the Gontier-era, yeah - I really couldn't stand 'Apologies' by comparison.
'Dominate' has one of Barry Stock's best riffs in years, and it's nice to hear some prominent bass in the verses, but man that chorus is just dull.
|
| |
Apart from mayday, I’ve been massively disappointed with the stuff that’s come after it. Very underwhelming stuff so far, hopefully the rest of the album steps up
|
| |
Everything besides Apologies is decent enough, but EVERY SINGLE SONG on this album will need a full vocal remix and vocal effects rework in order to be palatable.
But evidently Gontier doesn't want his vocals to be quality, instead embracing garbled mechanical shite that sounds like it wasn't even recorded in the same continent as the other vocalist or assembled by the same mixing engineer, because in his own words, "It isn't 2006 anymore."
Very brave, intelligent, sequitur stance.
|
| |
Yeah it's been pretty underwhelming overall, unless there are some substantial bangers on the album for me Gontier's tenure ends with Transit of Venus and I'm ok with that.
|
| |

this is exactly my problem with the songs so far. everything is bafflingly processed and overproduced, while a lot of the new singles feel like they're trying to catch current trends. i'm planning on reviewing it, but as i say, it's not looking good so far
|
| |
Apologies is painfully dull, Dominate has cool riffs from Barry (to Aeri's point), Kill Me Fast is probably the best single so far, Gontier sounds good despite all the bells and whistles.
To concur with Firebug and Gonzo, I do find Gontier's response to the criticism to be a little disconcerting. God forbid people suggest you maximize the output instead of running everything from vocals to instruments through a cheese grater
|
| |
Wait, so Adam had actually addressed criticism?
|
| |
I haven't seen any posts referencing Gontier responding to criticism, but honestly the guy doesn't really have a leg to stand on - it's not like Saint Asonia was amazing or anything, his output has been barely above average for a while now.
|
| |

He can still sing well enough live without studio interference at all. His vocal output with Saint Asonia still sounds good and not overly processed or poorly mixed. They are willfully self-sabotaging their record with bad vocal prod and getting defensive about it lol.
I do not understand. Perhaps putting in effort to make it sound like shit is cheaper than putting in effort to make it sound nice, but I'm pretty sure Adam could walk into the studio and do a single live take, and then just paste that over the recorded instrumental in Audacity with some volume adjustments, and it'd sound better and better mixed.
|
| |
"it isn't 2006 anymore" was the response, no?
In any case, him getting short and snippy w/ his audience seems a bit out of character. i guess he doesn't want anyone raining on his parade considering how much reconciliation had to take place to get him and TDG back on the same page again. But it's honestly baffling that they're seemingly going out of their way to not make an optimal record
|
| |
If that actually was his response, it’s a bit rich of him to say it - the man left Three Days Grace due to ‘creative differences’, only for both TDG and Saint Asonia to end up essentially creating the exact same music.
He’s been chasing the same sound for two decades.
|
| |
I definitely cede that TDG has nosedived since Matt joined, but especially w/ Explosions (Human and Outsider still hold up tho imo) and Asonia is obviously the same brand of radio post-grunge, just with Adam's vastly superior vocals. I wouldn't say Adam elevated TDG in their first run so much as the songwriting and bad production has dragged them down in the Matt years. I think they're all excellent musicians who have a good ear for what is best, but for whatever God forsaken reason, choose to ignore that
|
| |
I think they suffered more from losing Adam as a guitarist than as a vocalist.
First 4 albums' guitar were simple, but effective and pointed, with the occasional detour/off-kilter focal point that'd stand out and basically make the entire song, turning what would be by-the-numbers post-grunge/nu metal tracks into catchy anthems.
Then it just became simple. Except for the time they rehashed Chalk Outline on Outsider, but even that was worse.
|
| |
Actually just looked up to see if he's on guitar or not this time around. Thankfully yes, but also saw this
"The group had been working with producers in Canada, United States and England, via Zoom.[5][6] They leaned into recording the album remotely, which they had done with their previous album Explosions.[7]"
ahaha no wonder there's no consistency. literally nobody in the same room at the same time + different guys with different visions doing a grabbag of production jobs.
|
| |
"I think they suffered more from losing Adam as a guitarist than as a vocalist."
Hard agree on the guitar side of things. Barry Stock might *technically* be the more proficient guitarist, but he's ultimately a pretty boring player creatively. I couldn't name a single guitar riff from Human/Outsider/Explosions that hits as hard as 'Scared', 'Home' or 'Overrated'.
