Opeth's Blackwater 2: Electric Parkaloo

2021-04-16 by CaliggyJack | 57 Comments
Growlsmith, time traveling '70s rocker, and instrumental polymath Mikael Akerfeldt has announced a reissue of Opeth's seminal album Blackwater Park to celebrate said album's 20th anniversary.

"A much-deserved and open armed 20th anniversary celebration of Opeth’s magnum opus. Two decades in and still a breath-taking piece of work, dense with extraordinary melodic moments, spine-tingling atmospherics and agile but crushing heaviness, and one that saw the Swedish metallers kick open prog’s ornate doors, fed death metal through the cosmic kaleidoscope and introduced a generation of music nerds to a world of limitless musical possibilities. The reissue comes lovingly pressed onto heavyweight, audiophile approved vinyl, with a variety of deluxe finishes, and housed in a gatefold artwork sleeve, with updated liner notes and acknowledgements. The deluxe variants, including a hardcase CD, come furnished with an updated artwork booklet complete with new liner notes, never seen before memories from the band, and exclusive content provided by the Opeth fanbase. It remains a must for Opeth enthusiasts, completists and casual listeners alike."

Can't wait for Opeth oldschoolers to remind us again why Blackwater Park is the greatest Opeth album ever made for the 500,000,000th time in a row on July 16.

No reason to get excited here. I'd just love them to return to making interesting music. Last three albums were underwhelming.

@Dominion I always thought the consensus on MOV was they were pretty good. My Souvlaki MOV pressing sounds fantastic, no warping, etc and that seems to be other people's experiences.

It's baffling when bands do this after a prior deluxe reissue exists that already offers more bonus tracks.

I mean, I guess that was CD-only, but still, even if they're aiming for the vinyl obsessives, clearly they could've beefed this bad boy up a bit.

in my experience, their pressings really lack any real low end. if youre jamming a dreampop or whatever kind of album like souvlaki its not as big of a deal but if its a more “metal” kind of record, lower frequencies tend to matter a bit more
