Aerosmith Blocks Joey Kramer 2020-01-24 by Fernando Alves STAFF | 36 Comments |
Joey Kramer was blocked by security from entering Aerosmith's rehearsal for the Grammy Awards to be held next Sunday at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
According to a source, the band sensed Kramer wasn't capable of performing at a level their fans demand. "They had been inviting him to come back for the last six months since he's been away for whatever medical situation he's been dealing with", the source continues "He said, 'Yes, I'll come and rehearse' and kept not showing up. On the eve of the Grammys and MusiCares, he wanted to be back."
Kramer sought the court's intervention, but Judge Mark Gildea decided against him, stating: "Given that Kramer has not played with the band in six months and the dearth of available rehearsal time before the upcoming (Grammy) performances, Kramer has not shown a realistic alternative course of action sufficient to protect the band’s business interests. It is hereby ordered that the plaintiff's request for injunctive relief be denied."
Joey Kramer issued the following statement:
"Although I'm extremely disappointed by the Judge's ruling today, I respect it. I knew filing a lawsuit was a bit of an uphill battle considering that the corporate documents don't reference any process for a band member returning from an injury or illness. However, the band waited until January 15th to tell me that they weren't letting me play at the awards ceremonies this week. I can hold my head high knowing that I did the right thing — to fight for my right to celebrate the band's success that I have dedicated the better part of my life to helping build."
"The truth speaks for itself. Ever since I injured my foot last August and went through many hours of physical therapy to heal, not once did the band in its entirety offer to rehearse with me. That is a fact. I was also sent the full rehearsal schedule on January 18th and flew to LA the next day to rehearse and have many texts and emails stating the band can't wait for my return. That's also a fact. When I showed up to rehearse, I was greeted by two security guards who prohibited me from entering."
"The band's offer to allow me to participate in this week's MusiCares and Grammy celebrations for red carpet photo ops only, is appreciated; however, with a fill-in drummer playing on stage at two events honoring our collective musical contributions, it is extremely hurtful to me. I am a professional musician who is eager to return to my rightful place with Aerosmith."
Aerosmith later responded, in a statement to People, saying Kramer "has not been emotionally and physically able to perform with the band, by his own admission, for the last 6 months. We have missed him and have encouraged him to rejoin us to play many times but apparently he has not felt ready to do so. Joey has now waited until the last moment to accept our invitation, when we unfortunately have no time for necessary rehearsals during Grammys week. We would be doing a disservice to him, to ourselves and to our fans to have him play without adequate time to prepare and rehearse."
Kramer last performed with Aerosmith in April 2019 before experiencing what was described as a shoulder injury. Other reports indicated that he also injured an ankle. In recent months the band has played with Kramer's drum tech John Douglas.

There's more to this than meets the eye
|

shite band
|
| |
Damn, thats cold. Band should have retired in 1989.
|
| |
Management saw an opportunity in squeezing more money out of the Aerosmith franchise and the rest is fodder for the gossip outlets.
|
| |
lmao Aerosmith. who gives a fuck about this musty sack-of-shit band?
|
| |
"who gives a fuck about this musty sack-of-shit band?"
dads?
|
| |
Not even dads. This band is like grand dad status.
|
| |
'Not even dads. This band is like grand dad status.'
Can confirm. Am a dad and could not give two shits about these geriatric has-beens.
|
| |
Hate me some Aerosmith.
|
| |
He's been in the band for basically 50 years and this is how they treat him? What a bunch of cunts.
Also Steven Tyler abused underage girls and was on Jeffery Epstein's flight logs.
|
| |
So dumb
|
| |
They haven't put out anything listenable since that blues cover album they did.
|
| |
Steven Tyler is a pedophile
|
| |
pwnt
|
| |
Steven Tyler adopted a 14 year old girl so he could fuck her. Then he got her pregnant and forced her to have an abortion.
|
| |
This dispute is a good argument for a mandatory retirement age in rock music.
|
| |
Even at the absolute height of my classic rock worship, teenage me knew that Aerosmith were shit.
|
| |
Well learning about that whole impregnating a teenager thing really put a damper on the one or two aerosmith songs that doesn't make me instantly want to die.
|
| |
Even at the absolute height of my classic rock worship, teenage me knew that Aerosmith were shit.
Toys in the Attic and Rocks are huge, but leaving aside a short-lived resurgence during the late '80s - early '90s, agreed.
|
| |
I always thought they were highly respected in the United States, but judging by the feedback I see around here, I was wrong. It seems the new generations don't care less about these old rockers.
|
| |
Aerosmith slurps shit through a flavor straw, but even still this seems like a dick move.
|
| |
they're pretty respected in the US, it's just this site is not a good representation of the average american (should be obvious, but I guess it needs to be said).
not a huge fan myself, but a lot of people still like them
|
| |
"judging by the feedback I see around here"
Lol yeah. There's a reason why they've sold more records than nearly any other American rock band. The reason is that there are people who live outside the sputnik bubble. It's shocking, I know.
|
| |
I didn't know there was a life outside the sputnik bubble, but if that's true it must be a wasteland.
|
| |
Aerosmith is great (70s Aerosmith, anyway) AND Steven Tyler is a monkey man who is incompatible with civilization
|
| |
"There's a reason why they've sold more records than nearly any other American rock band."
yeah it's because Americans have fucking terrible taste
Eagles have 2 of the highest selling albums of all time
|
| |
"I didn't know there was a life outside the sputnik bubble, but if that's true it must be a wasteland."
Lol, it is. But the people are generally less obnoxious.
"Americans have fucking terrible taste"
Maybe you should have stayed home then, columbus.
|
| |
lmao
what I don't get about this story is... how much fucking rehearsal time does he really need to be able to perform "Dream On" or whatever the fuck they're gonna play? he's been in the band for like half a century and Aerosmith isn't exactly BTBAM
|
| |
Aerosmith was a great band, but have been going downhill steadily since 1977.
|
| |
blocking him for "not playing up to level" is pretty ironic considering how shit Joe Perry was at the Grammys
|
| |
When bands become highly profitable institutions, boys go from being bandmates to executive business partners. And things like this happen.
|
| |
band was atrocious last night. They probably could have used him.
|
| |
yea like a rehearsal is so necessary
|
| |
hahahahah a monkeyman
|
| |
Kramer is back in the band, guess Aerosmith finally figured out it's not in their best interest to have the entire rock fan ecosystem telling them off.
